Big mistake with the iPhones. I have one for work, and it have alot of downside. I dont know to much about the samsung, so I cant really give you any opinions on it "yet".

The iPhone lacks simple and basic stuff.
- 2MP camera.... Most newer phones are 5MP now.
- Cannot do picture text messaging
- Cannot copy and paste
- The virtual keyboard have many flaws
- No GPS

I also tried the N95, and its a good phone, GPS, and all the stuff you would need. Even with a built in 8GB internal flash.

Just my 2 cents

As for the "Instinct", its not much of an iPhone Killer "AS ADVERTISED". Maybe this is a bit bias but I am not a big fan of Sprint (my work phone is Sprint) no a fan of their phone selection or customer service for the past 3 years.

I would have to say that IMO, the battle for new cellphones to date would be between the new iPhone 3G and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. Personally, I have gone back n forth with info over these two phones.

I'm still doing a lot of research and the days are close when it comes to the new iPhone, but my mind has not been completely made up. Haven't seen the Xperia X1 or even heard of it...here go some links: (I've been following this phone's info trail since November last year)

Official Site: Sony Ericsson - XPERIA™ X1
Engadget: Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 QWERTY with Windows Mobile and HSUPA - Engadget
Wikipedia: Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
WMExperts: Review: First Impressions of the Xperia X1 - WMExperts
Gizmodo: Cellphones: Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 Runs Windows Mobile 6.1
GSM Arena (Specifications): Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 - Full phone specifications

YOUTUBE 1: YouTube - Xperia X1
YOUTUBE 2: YouTube - Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 Panels in action at CTIA 2008

Some things that have me thinking good on the Xperia:
Lightweight
3G Compatible
Built-in GPS Receiver
MicroSD Card Slot
2 Cameras (Pictures/Video Phone Calls (Conferences)
Decent Battery Life (10 hrs Talk Time I believe/Over 800hrs in stand-by)
I LOVE THE QWERTY Keyboard (I currently use a T-Mobile Wing (previously the MDA)
Decent Camera (3.15MP Camera & Video Call @ 30FPS)

Now one thing that I am currently researching is related to the iPhone 3G and its use of the camera(s). From my understanding, the concept of 3G was initially created for the purpose of being able to multi-task in a wireless fashion. For example, a video conference, while performing other tasks. I just can't seem to find that second camera on the new iPhone. So with that, is it a gimic to release a 3rd Gen iPhone? Is this new one "true" 3G? Here is a link I've read before about 3G info, its purpose, etc: 3G Intro

We all know the BIG plus signs when it comes to the iPhone 3G, its been advertised, so my thing is...tell me whats wrong with it? As I kind of mentioned earlier, I have (not used to) the fact of an on screen keyboard. Now, I have used, played with, "whateva" the current iPhone. It's not that bad, but I'm not sure if the on screen text keyboard will be displayed horizontally as well as the default vertical fashion. Of course, horizontal makes the keys a lil' bigger like when typing emails with the iPhone.
After playing with the iPhone for a couple days...I've realized that if you're a "texter" or love to send "emails", etc...it may not be for you. Yeh, it corrects your spelling, but its not that accurate (worse if your finger are 'muscular' - u know what I mean). That alone takes some getting used two. My guess, several weeks (depending on the person) Me, I hate it, but didn't think it was the end of the world...more time I'm sure it'd get better. I still prefer my popout keyboard like my Wing or say the Xperia X1 (heehee).

The iPhone3G, from what I know, doesn't have a removable battery. BIG FROWN. BIG, BIG FROWN. I have 3 batteries for my T-Mobile Wing. When traveling (which I do a lot of) I like to play my games, media, etc...not to mention email, texting, messenger, mobile office, u name it...I need my on the go battery options and a car charger may not always be an option.

Of course once the phones are released...accurate info about its performance and quality will be public. As for me, things that I have researched about the IP3G and the Xperia X1 were all related to my personal needs so they may not be an issue or concern to you.

The last thing I'll say about the iPhone is that there seem to be a lot of charges for services and applications that most other phone companies provide for FREE by default. For example, MobileMe, the .Mac service that includes Mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Gallery, and iDisk, all synced to the iPhone 3G, of course. That service is expected to cost $99 a year. Where in a Windows Mobile device, it will cost you around $0...as always. Now, some may agree with me as, well, Windows is Windows and you pay for what you get but do you really want to pay to have your mail synced to your phone each year?? That sounds like a govt. plan to extract more tax dollars from our "woodle bitty pwockets" (off topic)

Lastly, PC Mag put together quite a few articles to provide some info on the iPhone, see them here: PC Magazine Special Coverage - Apple iPhone The Xperia X1 has an Overview page located here: Sony Ericsson - Mobile phones - Overview - X1 The best thing about the X1 is that is not complete. Visible flaws, minor touch-ups, and addition of features are still able ot be worked before mass production begins. The only thing I can say is be patient and alert of its news.

I expect to make quite a few changes (for the better) in our community by this weekend *tentative so there will definitely be news and information available here on the progress of all our new gadgets and devices hitting the market.

Again, I apologize if my views so far are only related to things important to me but its because all my research thus far has been revolved around what I'm looking to buy. Non subjective reviews will be released here later in the "soon to be" new and improved news section

Phones I have/had

S500i - Great small phone - not good for business and organizing
N95 - Great media phone - GPS, Wifi, camera, Internal HDD - bad thing is most of them have issues, but I think its resolved with an upgrade.
N82 - A good traveling phone - GPS, Wifi, camera - bad is the antenna on it isn't that good
iPhone - Good for movies, music web browsing - not good as a media phone

My co-worker have a black jack 2, and its pretty cool, but not to par on what it does fully.

You're welcome thizrock. The Xperia was the original phone that was labeled the "iPhone Killer". That Instinct mumbo jumbo was just put together and released (quick punch, no power behind it). The Xperia is the reason WHY the iPhone is so cheap. That is a fact. So with that being said, the Xperia is shceduled to start at $199. No variations of phone types have been announced for the Xperia. So it may just end up being one tight phone with everything thrown in it and much, much cheaper than the iPhone.

The Xperia's downfall is Windows. I don't care if its Windows Mobile 19, there will be lag in its performance...I must say the iPhone shines in not falling into that category.

For those that may be wondering what the iphone is said to be lacking...here ya go: iPhone 3G: The Stuff that Didn't Get Upgraded

The positive I can say about this is, the App Store will more than likely have programs that will handle a few of those like MMS & Copy/Paste

I also thought that this was a good article: TECHNOLOGY Blog | The Dallas Morning News

trust me samsung instinic is a great phone. and only $130, $110 if you make video on youtube and sprint will give you $20 back. It's the 2nd best touch screen phone out there on the market. but it's whole lot cheaper than iphone. so i think samsung instinic is best choice. it also comes with 2nd battery, a case, and 2gb memory with it, you can upgrade the memory ofcourse. overall you'll be saving more than $40 a month compare to iphone. well it's up to you
