i have to print a presentation that is 8 megabites in size. lots of pictures and text using corel draw. i need to print 2000 pages of it but it takes so long. i tried printing 1 page at the time and still takes tooooo long. i tried pictures first and same result.
my question is can i increase the amount of memory that the pc uses to print? and maybe be able to print 1 page of my presentation 2000 times? any help will be welcome even the obvious ones. (serious help preferred) |

There are different method of printing besides the basic window application. Depending on the printer "Laserjet, Deskject, Officejet, etc" Most laserjet that are networkable, have a IPP function build in, basically what it is. Its a function that allow you to add the printer as a URL to windows printing and will process/spool faster than windows, since the printer is the one thats doing all the process.
Google up on IPP or you can make your own IPP server via Linux and CUPS. But will require another PC to run linux and must be on the same network.

thanks for the quick answer
at this time i can only use my laptop using win XP pro because of timing issues. when traveling i use different printers. most of the time i just use the closest printer avaliable. using only win xp pro and an inkjet printer is it even possible to cut down on some of the long wait when it comes to printing 2000+ pages? memory tweaks, registry tweaks? laptop inkjet printer no network sorry i didnt give this information in my first post ....oops |

Thats cool that you travel. Do you use small business center at hotel or you just carry around your own set?
Anyways, by default XP spools the first page, when the document is being sent to the printer. So you have a 50 page document and want to print it. File size is about 4mb or so, XP will encode the first page to the printer, to warm it up, then send the rest as it goes. Can take awhile. There is a setting for printer spooling, but rarely have in big effect in spooling. Go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes > Go to that printer property. Go to the Advanced Tab, set the "Spool print document..." to "Start printing after last page...", what that should do is put full focus on the document that is about to be printed, and should process faster In other cases, its usually the printer that takes a long time to process the RAW data. Give it a try, and let me know how it works out.

i travel with a laptop and use the printer of the business i am in.
i didnt see a lot of change by telling the computer to "start printing after last page..." however i ended up using a different printer and that cut at least 30 sec per page. i went from epson stylus cx5800f to HP officejet j5780. epson cx5800f has really good quality pictures but slow to process the Raw data. hp officejet j5780 with excellent quality didnt even notice the 2000 pages document and started printing right away i just had to load paper because the tray only loads about 130 pages at the time. thanx again for your quick help. |
