Nice setup guys. Hopefully, I will have a 42" LCD in a month or 2 (with a PS3 :-)
In the meantime, I did get an Olevia 26" LCD for the bedroom. About $450. It's great. It has the option to change the aspect of the image coming in, so even when playing xvids off the XBOX or last gen gaming, it looks pretty decent. And I noticed that the further away from the television, the better it looks. Up close, you can see the low res video quality, but from 6'-7' away (where the bed headboard is, the image looks incredible. And playing DVD's off the XBOX is great quality also. The zoom feature makes the image almost perfect. Does the XBOX automatically upscale for DVD's? @Steimy So you have a Phillips Upconverter? Is it any good? Because I was thinking of getting it. I read that it has the ability yo read xvids off a HDD connected via USB. This is the main reason I want to get it, but also because I know that the great quality I a, seeing in my Olevia is partly due to the screen size being smaller. I have an extra 160GB HDD in a SATA enclosure and I want to throw all of my xvids on there. Free up the XBOX space for the kids. It's going to be their "Cartoon Box." They are getting our Standard Def television with the XBOX loaded with every Spongebob, Thomas, Transformers, Batman, Superman, Thundercats, Voltron etc... episode. (Ok, it's for me too ;-) ) @LS Target (where I got my Olevia) also has that deal of $30 for a 2-year warranty. Must be something some of the bigger stores are doing. Best Buy sucks. There is one right above the Target that I go to in our Mall. So I went there before I purchased my Olevia. They had the same television for $100 more....and it was "on sale." But the real kicker was that both stores had a Westinghouse 26" with a built in SD DVD player. Targets was $500. Best Buy had a "premium" offer of $700, and you get 18 months 0% financing. I tried to test the TV in Best Buy. The guy at Best Buy wouldn't even use a real DVD movie. He pulled out a test sample advertisement "movie." And then he couldn't even work the television.

@Black First off congrats on the purchase. I saw an Olevia 26'' on sale at K-Mart a couple weeks after buying mine. The prices was $450. I would've most likely gotten the Olevia over the Sanyo, they seem to definitely be one of the nice "budget" brands so to speak. At the time I bought mine, K-Mart didn't have any good deals on TV's.
Second off, don't be so quick to hand the Xbox to the kids. XBMC will upscale SD to 720p and 1080i in good quality. Chances are the Xbox GPU will upscale in better quality than your TV. The upscaling on my set is okay, but the Xbox upscaling is much better. I tried both and the quality difference is very evident. It's possible your TV upscales better than mine. Also XBMC has support for FAT and FAT32 partitions. The problem is, it will only support a maximum of 4GB FAT32 partitions. The kicker is you need a USB mod for one of your controller ports. So that may not be the best option lol. As for upscaling on the Xbox, you will need component cables for the Xbox 1 to upscale. You can purchase them off eBay. Something like this: XBOX LCD TV HD AV CABLE HIGH DEFINITION HDTV COMPONENT - eBay (item 160200312988 end time Jan-21-08 10:10:19 PST) Get a newer build of XBMC to avoid any issues with upscaling. To enable upscaling from within XBMC, go to settings-->system settings-->system-->video hardware enable widescreen and 720p or 1080i. On a 26'' LCD, 720p is better, you really can't tell a difference between a 1080 and 720 signal on a 26'' HDTV imo. So I go with progressive over interlaced. The cool thing about the Xbox is the upscaling is global or system wide. So all video files in XBMC, DVD's will be upscaled to the selected resolution. Also, almost all newer emulators support the upscaling as well, it's fun as hell playing MAME, PSX, SNES, Genesis, NES roms in HD. If you purchase the component cables try to find the official Xbox 1 component cables, the generic third party ones can have audio feedback and poor video quality. I paid a little more for the official MS component cables for Xbox 1. Official Microsoft XBOX HD Component Cables Mint RARE - eBay (item 280193179468 end time Jan-23-08 22:07:40 PST) The video quality is definitely better and there is no audio feedback. There is a chance the third-party ones will work ok, but it's 50/50 at best. For quality, DVD's are excellent. Good quality XviD's look very nice as well. I am into Season 4 of Star Trek Voyager, and the quality is very good. Animated programming looks fantastic upscaled, most times you can't tell it's not native HD. Overall, I think the Xbox does a terrific job of upscaling for video files and emulators. Considering how dated the hardware is, I am amazed that it even possesses that ability. For playing Xbox games, it comes down to whether the game supports the upscaling or not. Most games do not, but some newer ones do. Marvel vs Capcom 2 does, so that's a plus. From everything I read, the upscaling on an upscaling player was no better than that of the Xbox, and XBMC has the advantage of doing it for any format, not just DivX, XivD, and DVD.

@black,
Yeah, it works well but i would do some research on it first. I didn't and was a bit dissapointed when i found out that the output on the one i bought was "simulated" surround sound. Other than that the DivX that i play on it (pretty much only UFC events from an HD source) look great. They looked a world better then when i use to convert them to DVD format and play them in my other DVD player that does not upconvert. I have not tried the hard drive thing yet, But it does have a USB slot on the player. I tried a flash drive once and that was a no-go unless i did something wrong. But it is nice to be able to take DivX files, put them on a DVD as a data DVD and just play them without having to spend the 2 hours worth of time to convert them to DVD format for sure. So for me that alone makes it worth the $80 i paid for it. Another nice feature it does have is that it connects via HDMI , or of course component cables if you needed to go that route.

Some upscaling models only convert when you use HDMI connectors I believe.

Looks pretty nice, ashame it only supports 720p. :P
Nah, that's so dumb the tech specs aren't accurate. All newer HDTV's are capable of receiving 1080i/720p signals, the resolution difference just may not be noticable on all TV's or TV's fixed to display at specific resolutions. So how does the PS3 look on it?
