Exclamation Front I/O cables in a computer

alright guys, i've built a computer before, but this is only my second time, and this one is for me, the other one was for my friend.

i forget, does it matter which way the front i/o cables go, e.x. the power switch, i know they say + and - but does it matter since its just going to go thru the circuit a different way

It does matter, cause if its backwards, it will short circuit and blow something on the board. The one with the arrow (triangle) is the positive, FYI on the cable. For LED, RESET and HDD, it doesn't matter, for power (YES)

ok, ill change it, im shut this computer down and take the SATA cable out of it, ill change that cables when i back to the other one, i need the one in this computer because they say not to bend it 90 degrees, and the way their case is made, it makes a regular straight SATA cable bend more then 90 degrees

alright thanks for the reply

It should say in the motherboard manual how the layout of the pins and connectors are supposed to go. In mine it was pretty well diagrammed.

well, my manual sucked. on the front Input-output (mic), i had to decode the dang thing to figure out where it went, then it was all the way in the corner, where my hand wouldn't fit. plus the cable runs across and kindda pushes on my video card. my PSU is suppose to be comming to day and ill go to the guy down the street and see if hes got any thermal paste. hes like the only computer nerd besides me within 50 miles... lol.

oh btw, the some reasons i went with AMD are, they are cheaper than intel, they are able to OC more, i already had an X2 4200+ processor (2.2 Ghz dual core athlon) and those damn push pins

and now the computer is up and running fine, but i checked my logs, and there is a bad block in the hard drive, i don't get it, because Vista is running fine on it.

Nothing wrong with AMD lol, I'm not gonna start a fanboy debate lol. AMD and Intel both make some very nice processors. Even though AMD is clearly behind right now, I certainly would not count them out.

As far as the bad HDD block, have you tried running check disk through fdisk to see if it can be recovered? Here's a guide for XP, I'm not sure it's the same for Vista.

How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP

yes i've tryed that, plus im running vista so i can't use that link. but it seems to be fixed now, but i guess only time will tell, i think it was because of vista, because i formated and now i can't find a bad sector. i also tryed the WD Data Lifeguard on it too because it is a WD hard drive

but formating work so far, ill check it in a few days to see if i can find another

*Bryce Crosses fingers*
