What are you doing on your PC?

Any personal projects? Anything interesting? Collecting, downloading, storing, re-organizing, new OS, reformatting?

I've been working on ripping my CD collection to FLAC and then converting to vbr mp3's. I came across two free 250GB IDE drives, so one is going to be for backup of important stuff and the other for movies and music.

Post your projects. Might give others ideas! (like me )

Main PC, only thing I have setup is some virtual clients. VMWare and Virtual Box. I have 2 Linux installs on each, and alot of Live CD Distro I created for work.

My harddrives are separated just incase I move the virtual clients to a different computer.

500GB - Virtual Client
1TB - Anime Collection
1TB - Software Archive
1TB - Movies/TV Series Collection
300GB - Main OS (Windows XP Pro)

I probably will go back to digital art and drawing, kinda miss it.

HDD List:

External Drives

750GB - HD movie collection
500GB - HD Movie Colleciton
400GB - HD TV Shows and Kids Movies
250GB - Music Backup with some HD movies
250GB - Internal to Popcorn Hour - HD and SD Home Movies
160GB - HD Asian Movies Collection including Anime Movies
120GB - MAME and other Arcade and Emulated Consoles/Games
80GB - HD Animated (non-Anime and no Kids stuff)
40GB - Arcade HDD

Internal Drives

320GB - OS
500GB - Music Collection and Software Backup and Console Utilities

Console Drives

250GB - PS2
400GB - XBOX
40GB - PS3

Seems like a lot, but the only one I've purchased this year is the 750GB one. Everything else was either leftover from older builds, or stumbled upon and given to me for free. The 400GB was my old PS2 drive. I swapped it out with a free 250GB drive. Since I'm not really playing the PS2 much, it didn't matter anymore.

Something is going to die soon, but for the most part, the important things are backed up to disc...lol

Same here about the digital art. I've lost my drive (pun not intended) for it. My downtime is either TV or casual gaming. The job and kids take up everything else and I'm just always too tired.

So is that your new rig LS? I haven't been around much, but I remember you were saving for one or ready to build one.

Yep built it 4 months ago, ran great after I switched from the official ATI drivers to the Omega ones and decided to not overclock past 3.0Ghz. The motherboard is great, but I probably would've gone with a bit cheaper mobo like the Gigabyte DS4 X48 if I had to do over again. Hell P35 and 45 chipset mobos can be had for around $100 and still deliver a really good feature set. No regrets in going with Gigabyte, it's a sturdy well built mobo with tons of connections and bios options. Unless this thing suddenly explodes, Gigabyte will definitely have a customer for many years to come.

Quads are overpowered, but Windows starting in 15 seconds, tearing through XviD to DVD conversion in 15 minutes, ripping through 1080p, running Crysis on high, Firefox loading in under 5 seconds and 12,000+ in 3DMark06 is worth the price of admission. There was a lot of trial and error, but the experience you gain from building a PC is priceless.

How bout you black, I seem to remember you saying you were saving for a new PC awhile back? Hell the Q6600 can be had brand new, G0 stepping for $190. You thought about building a new rig? I seem to remember you being an AMD guy. /me boos :P

Aw hell no. Never been an AMD guy :P Intel ftw!

Yeah, I want to build one by April-May. Depends on what my bonus is and how much I get a new car for. My 99 Altima is in need of replacement. The 10 year mark is as far as I'll go. Law of diminishing returns....lol.

I definitely want to see where Blu Ray burners are at that time. My main reason for the new rig is to handle HD video with ease. I want to rip my blu rays to mkv but also edit my HD home video and author blu rays. Of course the extra horsepower would also help in the gaming department ;P

I hear that. With Nehalem coming out at the end of the year, prices on existing quads and duals should drop to very affordable levels. Not too many people really need a quad, but it is really nice to have.
