Hacking the Zune

Well my Zune finally came, and I just finished updating the firmware (was just released yesterday I think.)

Plain and simple, are there any worthwhile software hacks for the Zune? If it makes a difference it is the 30 gig model.

@kam

The new transfer interface is not that bad on version 2. Although that is no biggie, the size of the Zune is nuts! I did not realize is was so friggin' big!

This is the iPod section!!! lol j/k

Anyways there are some zune firmware hacks, but they are all sloppy and mostly visual hacks. And dont have much info on it, since my lasted a few days before I gave it away.

I got my wife a zune and she likes it pretty well. Even though the size is a little on the large size. I updated the firmware and software yesterday and I do like the wireless sync that was just added. My only complaint is battery life. They claim somewhere around 14 hours. This one don't last that long even if I don't turn wireless on. Maybe it's supposed to do this, but when I turn it off, I don't think it really turns off. I press and hold the play/pause button, the screen turns black, but a press of any of the other buttons turns it immediately back on. If I charge it up, and turn it off that way, leave it over night, turn it on the next day, the battery is half gone. So is that the proper way to turn it off??

Holding Play/Pause it to put it on stand by. To turn it off should be Back and Down, if I remember correctly. Give it a try.

How about putting it on standby, then using the lock button? Does that work? I am curious also Sad, I couldnt figure (still cant) why the hell it turns on after what I thought was turning it off using the play/pause button.

I will try kam's suggestion...just odd you have to ask how to turn something off lol.

Pressing Play to turn off is the iPod method, lol. And yes Punq, I thought about that.

I figured out the power off thing Stang. When you turn the zune off by holding the pause/play button, your not really turning it off. Just putting it to sleep. To actually turn it off, you have to hold the back button and down simultaneously for about 3-5 seconds till the screen goes black. Then to turn it on, you have to hold the pause/play button for a few seconds and it boots up like it should from a power down. Weird, but I guess thats Microsoft for you. Something else that bugs me about the zune is how you can't turn it off while charging, I find that weird too, but again, I'm talking about Microsoft.

Maybe should rename this section Media Players or something to that effect, what with all the features of playing videos and such, seems it would fit better.
