Cool How to Record Your own Music?

I want to use my PC to record myself playing the guitar, play it back and play the lead guitar and dub it together. I have no expirience with it on the computer just with cassette tapes. I've played with Nero Soundtracks, and Wave editor, but I'm still not able to acheive the funtion I meantioned above. Also when I try to save the clips it only gives you the option to save as nerosoundtrax file, not mp3. or whatever. I could use some help if any one in fimiliar with this type of stuff. Thanks........

Sony Sound Forge, Record with a regular mic one session, then record other sessions, then you can move it along the timeline to sync it, and listen to all the sessions/layers live, then you can save raw, or MP3.

check out some of those. It really will not ne as easy with a PC as it would be with two recorders. Since i am not sure how many programs will allow you to play back one track while you are playing along and recording another.
Something i really never checked into because PC's could not really do that back when i was doing what you are doing now.
I always just thought about buying a DAT or something that could do multiple tracks. But without the money when i was younger i was forced to use two tape recorders
I would just tape one track, then play it back and do my next part while recording on a second recorder, not the best quality but pretty good for the time. Took me like 4-5 times just to get a song down.
First came lead, then next rhythm, then vocals and sometimes when i had time drums and bass (i had them in the house as friends use to come over and jam)
Reminds me that i should sell all my amps, guitars and my mic and stand as i no longer use them.

gigastudio - but it is expensive
cakewalk - also a bit pricey

You could always buy a used Tascam 4-track recorder. I had one back in the day. Neat little device. I was able to get two guitars, bass and drums. Then I would just output all 4 tracks to my PC. You may be able to find one used on ebay for under $200.

Cool

I have to say I'm pleased with Audacity. Out of all the ones I've tried, it was the most user friendly for dubbing two guitars. Started using it right away, and with LAME MP3 encoder, you can save you grooves in mp3 format for sharing, and virtualy any media player. Real simple! As I learn more I'll post back.

O' Yeah, did I meantion it's also available for Mac, Linux, and....... well, Free.

Audacity: Windows

one thing i like to mess around with myself is the line6 guitarport rifftracker. it's pretty nice, easy to use and has some nice effects. pretty cheap too. may consider giving it a try.
