Help with adding an effect to image-movie

Hello there

What i want is quiet simple, maybe you already have it somewhere on forum, but i couldnt find it

When i have a series of images, e.g. game screens, and i want to make them in animated gif with different screens fading in and out and some text appearing time to time, how do i do it?
Preferably without Photoshop, but ill try dling trial if its obligatory

E.g. i have Screenshot 1 and screenshot 2 and i want it to be like this :sc1, fade, text appear, fade, sc2, text on top of screen.

Thanks alot

Edit: found an old sig made by friend of mine, this is exactly what i am trying to do

Another edit:
Just a note, i already read the tutorial on "avi -> animated gif", and my avatar is result of my try... its seems weird because i had to lower it to just a few frames because of 30kb limit for avatar. I just dont know how to make images into a animated gif, and how to add things like text and fade

Windows Movie Maker is the easiest way. Just click import files and add the photos into the program in the order you want, then click add to timeline. Then on the timeline, navigate to where you want to add visual effects, and click tools... from there you can you can visual effects, transitions, or add titles and credits (text). When you have everything set, save it as a dv-avi and import into Adobe ImageReady when you are done. As far as not using Photoshop, ImageReady is by far the best software for makng animated gifs. There's nothing else that gives you as much ability to compress, optimize, and manage frames with an acceptable level of quality. Here's a guide:

Yeah thanks alot, that helped

Only one thing - is there any way to add text in the middle of movie? Because Windows Movie Maker only makes one text at start (name) and when i try to put another text in middle it always does it on default background (some flower) which i cant change no matter how i try, so i have to resort to drawing text in paint and then importing it as an extra picture... which isnt exactly best way imho...

Yeah just navigate in the timeline to the point you want to add text, click tools-->titles and credits-->titles and credits on the selected clip. Then add in the desired color, font, text, animation, and it will add in the text to the part you selected in the timeline.
