It's fake. If you watch the video close enough, you can tell that there is at least two different wii's being used in this video. One Wii has the latest updates and you can tell this by looking at the menu. Towards the bottom, it has this curved look to it. On the other Wii, it has not been updated and you can tell this because the menu bar is straight across instead of being curved.

Before running the bootloader pic, also notice the presence of the Wii shop channel in the upper right corner. It looks like little yellow, blue, green and red rectagular boxes.


And then after running the bootloader image. Mysteriously, the menu has reverted back to before any updates. Also the Wii shop channel is also gone. Replaced by a simple white channel box.


If you watch closely, you can tell when the cut away in the video is as well.

Sadalius, what do you think of the Wii and it's gameplay. I'd be willing to bet it's worth the cost but is it comparable to the other two NextGen consoles?

I actually like the Wii. Game quality isn't like the 360 or the PS3, but the lower cost and the controller makes up for that.

Glad we have someone on staff who can spot the fake so easily. Interesting, I wonder if the PS3 or Wii will be cracked first?

the PS3 already has been dumped but as far as playing them i don't think it's there yet

i think the Wii...will be the first one to be hacked...out of that and the ps3

From the moment I saw this, I really hoped it would be true as I don't like spending £40 everytime I want to get a new game but looks like the Wii can't really be hacked, for now...

Well, actually, from watching one of the talks from C3, there was a guy that talked about Game Cube security and also talked about the Wii. The guy seemed to imply that they were able to hack the DVD drive to be able to play a backup, but was not able to run homebrew. The way the guy described it, it was almost like an xbox 360 firmware flash, but since they were not able to execute unsigned code, they did not pursue it any farther and wouldn't release their findings to prevent piracy.
