First Ever Wii Game Backup Mod Revealed!

Team Ninja has reportedly the first ever Wii modchip up their sleeves. The 5 wire modification will play Wii and GC backups of the SAME region, and is expected to retail for around 35 euro's. As you can see from the pictures below, its a simple looking mod and should be easy to install.

Thats great, the only problem is actually making your backups!! There is a way to do it, but it takes a certain DVD drive (LG) with a certain application (DVD info pro) and it takes days to rip. Thats right, I did say days. Not an hour, not a couple of hours, but over FIFTY HOURS to get one dump of a game.

The process is similar to the original way of backing up a 360 game, but takes forever.

I have no idea. I haven't tried this myself. I don't have the right drive. But from what I've read, people have tried other drives, but it doesn't work. The LG apparently accepts the right commands to be able to read the disks, but slowly. I would imagine that once the right people get involved, this process will be made alot faster, someone like Kreon maybe?

Interesting, I got it after the first one it read the backups, wanted to see more gameplay footage, makes me think there are still some kinks to work out, 30 seconds of Zelda booting isn't gonna fool anyone.

The full specifications of the 'Wiinja', It is said to boot Wii backups directly as well as own region game backups. The supported media includes DVD-R and + R as well as the mod supporting consoles of ALL regions. Unfortunately it is not upgradeable at all, so if the big N throw out some clever moves, the mod will be over as quick as a flash!

Seem like the same method as the Xeno Modchip for the Gamecube, which is attached to the console DRM IC. Otherwords, it overwrites the auth table when loading the game.

The supported media chart needs some tweaking, needs some Taiyo Yuden testing and to specify the dyes used, not the type of DVD's. It also could use some further DVD+R testing. Like most media-related things, it's crap, the real media compatibility testing will have to come from the user.
