Wii need to know ?

Hi peep's some interesting Nintendo Info

Wii News Channel launches alongside Mario Kart 64. [Geekpulp]

Wii owners around the world awoke this morning to find a soft blue glow eminating from the disc drive of their Nintendo Wii consoles. With a quick check of their incoming messages, Wii owners can let out a collective sigh of relief as the News Channel can now be downloaded free of charge. This marks the third completely free Channel download from Nintendo to sit alongside the Weather Channel and the Beta version of the Wii Internet Browser.

The News Channel is looking impressive for a first attempt. From the initial menu you can select National, Regional or International news headlines as well as the typical Sports, Technology, Entertainment and Business sections you’d find in a newspaper. There’s also a snazzy looking slideshow mode which goes from headline to headline while spinning the infamous Weather Channel’s globe in the background showing you where each news article is coming from. But is this enough to keep users coming back? With the biggest NZ headline on the News Channel being something along the lines of “NZ loves sheep enough to create Lamb Day” versus The Herald’s “Why youngest killer isn’t getting parole”, it seems more likely people will be simply creating a bookmark with their favourite online newspaper in the Wii Net Browser.

Of course, it is early days and this is Nintendo’s first attempt, and it is quite likely that they will release upgrades for their new software in the future.

And the News Channel isn’t the only new downloadable content for the Wii this weekend. The Virtual Console saw its second Nintendo64 title arrive: Mario Kart 64. Every gamer out there knows of Mario Kart, whether it’s the original SNES version or the much newer versions on the GameCube and DS, it’s nice to be able to see the first 3D version of the series again. Sadly, due to complications, gamers are unable to record and view their fastest laps as a ghost on this version. Hopefully, a fix will be available in the future to rectify this. If not, there’s still the completely addictive four player multiplayer modes to attack
