CycloWiz rocks!
CycloWiz is a dream come true for many Wii owners. While it still doesn’t allow you to run Wii imports or Wii homebrew it has all the features you’d expect from a drivechip and can not be easily detected by the Wii. We probably already have a winner in the Wii modchip competition that just started! With the chips expecting to hit resellers on Friday, what are you waiting for? Pre-order CycloWiz at your local reseller before they are all gone! Positives - Wii and GC backups working exactly like original discs - Support for GC homebrew and imports - Full GC compatibility (including audio streaming games) - Stealth - Quick-solder - Works with multi-disc games - Very well built and great quality Negatives - No Wii imports or homebrew Full Review HERE

I will be testing one of these chips very soon as well. As of now I am still working on backing up Wii games, which is not a fun process.

Thx, I figured I would start coming around here more often :-)
Anyways, there is a new discdumper v1.2 out now, which allows you to backup Wii games in under 3 hours, which is a major improvement. I am going to be testing this beta program most likely tomorrow if I have time. Otherwise, I have successfully backed up Red Steel, atleast I think, I obviously have not tested it yet. As for the cyclowiz modchip, there is another chip coming out the 7th of this month called the Wiikey that may be a better alternative as it offers flashing via dvd disc. The makers of the XenoGC made this chip and it looks promising. It can boot GC imports as well, as for Wii imports I do not think it will support it on launch. Here are the specs behind it... Specifications: # Fully upgradeable via DVD/disc (future proof, expect cool features to come) # Direct boot of Wii backups (like originals) # Direct boot of GC backups (like originals) # Boots different region GC games/backups # Boots different NTSC region Wii games/backups # Supports multi-disc games # Supports DVD-R and DVD+R # Built-in audio fix (for games using streaming, no patch required) # Stealth mode # 4 wires & quick solder interface # Compact design, best quality components, rock solid high speed controller # Professional ESD packing |

I might not get the Wii for awhile, but overall Xeno did make a great low cost modchip for the GC. I get 100% boot rate and plays all region flawlessly. As with their Wii modchip, I hope they stand up to their reputation. Is there a price range for it, as of now?

Well you can expect these chips to be over $40. The Wii chips coming out as of now are really basic. Nintendo did a terrible job protecting their systems (I'm not complaining). It is amazing to think it took so long to crack the GCOS for the original, it was not at all complicated. Well I think the reason it was a little complicated was because the audio for games that came out right away for the GC was streamed, which made it hard to produce backups that were playable on the system. Since the chips are brand new, the makers of these chips are gonna be jacking up the prices to $40+ on them even though they should be selling them for under $30.
Remember when GC modchips released not to long ago, they were going for over $50 right away and now they sell chips for $5-$10 that work better than the top of the line chips. Anyways, what I'm trying to get at here is hopefully we see price drops really soon on Wii modchips :-) |

That's pretty cool. I wonder for multi-disc games it if will work for games switching in mid-game? That was a catch 22 for PS2 modchips like the Duo series that required a reset to boot backups, if you have to reset in mid-game without having the ability to save in between discs, there's no way to advance. Real modchips like the MI, DMS 4 Pro SE, and CC all supported that ability, I think the Ghost 2 did as well. Mainly it was a prob for PSX games, as several multi-disc PSX games didn't allow a save between discs.

Yeah, I would think that right away it may not support them, but who knows? I never really played to many of the games where you switched discs, besides Metal Gear Solid of psx.

Mostly they were RPG's, games like Lunar I and II, Chrono Cross, and Valkyrie Profile, amongst others.
