Another modchip for the Wii has just been announced, it is called the WiiKey, made by the makers of Xeno GC

Specifications:
# Fully upgradeable via DVD/disc (future proof, expect cool features to come)
# Direct boot of Wii backups (like originals)
# Direct boot of GC backups (like originals)
# Boots different region GC games/backups
# Boots different NTSC region Wii games/backups
# Supports multi-disc games
# Supports DVD-R and DVD+R
# Built-in audio fix (for games using streaming, no patch required)
# Stealth mode
# 4 wires & quick solder interface
# Compact design, best quality components, rock solid high speed controller
# Professional ESD packing

This product as of right now is the only chip that can be updated via a DVD disc. It is still unknown whether this chip will come preflashed or not. I'll be sure to keep you all updated on this product!

For now, start backing up some of your Wii games! CLICK HERE to DL the discdumper 1.2 beta 2 program. You will need one of the specified LG Drives to DL Wii games.

lol, well I am still thinking on what chip I should do a review on. I only have 1 Wii to work with here...

One thing that concerns me about the Wiikey is the ability to update from a disk. At first I thought they had found a way to execute arbitrary code (homebrew) but after some research, dug this up:

The Update disc will likely be formatted for Gamecube and will launch in GC mode. The app will send commands to the chip to flash it with the updated code. Since the chip 'listens' and reacts to these commands, it also means Nintendo can possibly detect if you have a chip like this (WiiKey) installed in your console.
So this chip may have an inadvertant flaw in it.

yeah that can be good installing a chip on a new system that could poss be no good in a week its not working for me my getting one this week hopefully!!!!! and just gonna have fun with the controller!!!!!!!

Yeah could be, that stuff is pretty technical, but I guess it could be quashed with a future firmware update. That's really up to the coders, perhaps there will be a soft mod that is completely reversible to try out.
