Waninkoko's ISO Loader Leaked.

First off I am not going to link to any site with information or download on this application. The application is in beta and it could be a high risk to your Wii system. So if any links are posted I will edit your post. If you want more information on it or want to try the application at your own risk then use Google. It is your friend.

I am sure most have heard already about the leaked beta version of Waninkoko's ISO Loader. Waninkoko has supposedly abandoned the project because of the leak. Who knows if he will stick to his word. Only time will tell.

In any case there has been allot of controversy over this. It seems allot are against the ISO loader. It is suggested that the application will encourage more piracy of games. It has also been suggested that this will encourage Nintendo to work harder to close exploitable security holes.

My thoughts on this...

Modchips or Softmods serve the same purpose. To load legally owned backup games. The downside is those that condone piracy will always exploit any hardware or software that is released for backup purposes. So I don't buy those that claim this application is for those that want to pirate games. Those that pirate games have probably already been pirating games using Modchips.

Now to the second part of this discussion. It seems allot of people are claiming that applications that Waninkoko has released and is going to release is destroying the homebrew scene. Some tend to think it will make Nintendo work harder to block security holes in the system.

Nintendo has already been working on this. They have already attempted to block the Trucha signed exploit and the TP hack (and Modchips). But it didn't take long to update the TP hack and you can load Trucha Signed disc/apps with Gecko OS.

So blaming 1 person on Nintendo trying to block security holes is pointless. Everyone that has released homebrew applications have been apart of revealing security holes in the system.

Do you think Nintendo will keep the security holes open until homebrew applications come along that will effect their revenue? No when they find the security holes (do to homebrew) they are going to try to close them no matter how relevant the homebrew application is.

So 1 person is not the problem. It is the whole homebrew community.

Anyway if anyone has a reply or has their own view feel free to post.

From what I understand, the Wii was initially hacked very similar to the GameCube. If Nintendo gave a crap about a secure console, there wouldn't have been modchips available for the Wii within 3 months of its release. Bottom line is the Big N has no one to blame but themselves for console game piracy. After 3 years on the scene, does anyone see PS3 boot loaders? I didn't hear these same people complaining when the XDK was leaked, hacked, and modified to run all types of homebrew, hacked dashboards, apps, and emulators on a modified Xbox.

Just my take on it, but homebrew and pirated games sell a lot of consoles. It could be argued that Nintendo left the door open on purpose to allow for pirated games to move consoles. I've heard that argument for MS and the 360, though they have had some limited success in battling firmware modders in the last year.

As for the poll, I voted modchips. My first involvement in "the scene" was with PS2 backups. Modchips pwned on the PS2 because they didn't require any silly boot discs or console mods to work. On the Xbox 1, there really isn't any difference between a softmod or hardmod, other than it's a bit easier to upgrade the HDD on a chipped box. For 360, there are no modchips, only crappy firmware drive chips which aren't always upgradeable, softmods are much better for 360.

As for mods on the Wii, hard to give an educated opinion since I don't own one.

I chose Softmod.

Most all of my MODs are softmods.

PSP/PS2/Xbox1/Xbox 360/GameCube

The only Modchip I have is for my Wii which I had someone install it for me (wished Wii-Clips where available at that time). If there was a stable softmod for the Wii at that time I probably would have went that route.

I voted for softmods, because they mostly require less or no money.
