Question 20min into the movie and...FREZZE

I have been backing up DVDs for quite some time now. But i'm noticing that my most recent backups (about 4 or 5) play and then about 20min into the moive the freeze. Most of the files are avi. I use ConvertXtoDVD and then burn them to my dvd at 4x.

Has anyone had this problem? Is there a better software out there to convert avi files to dvd? I know it's not my laptop, because I've put the dvd in other pc's and the same thing happens. So i'm pretty sure it's my process.

What Codec are you using and what methods? If you are using Xvid, it shouldn't be doing that. Unless something is interfering. If its Divx Compression, its common, but a quick fix is to reset its configs, which should do the trick, but better to use XviD.

I'm sorry, how do I find what codec i'm using. I usually try to join the avi files (if I can't then I just drop them both into covertxtodvd) and then it does it's thing. When your saying Divx & XviD is that another program? Sorry but although I know how to back up dvds and games, some stuff i'm still just lost in the dark with.

DivX and XviD are codecs that are used to encode AVI. XviD is the more popular one, but give it a try, you should be able to select which code to encode with, when using ConvertXtoDVD.

wouldn't Gspot help ya out? It should give you the info on what codec the file needs to play, and it should let you know if you have all the codecs [audio and video] to play the file in question.

Yeah, that's what I would have suggested.. GSPOT or similar to find out what codec etc..

Sometimes even just right clicking ont he video file and selecting properties from the menu will give you the info you need.. see below
