monitor always shuts off

yeah so whenever im playing games on my computer (starcraft, wc3, pristontale, etc) or surfing the web (myspace, youtube) my monitor will randomly shut off. the light on my monitor will go green to orange but my computer stays on. I know its not my monitor thats causing the problem because i tried it with a different monitor and it still happened.. now ive heard 3 things that could of caused this: 1. theres a virus in my computer, 2. Video card is overheated, 3. My computers not genuine so im not getting the updates from windows like i should be if i were a genuine user.. i dont know what to do this has been happening for like the past 2 yrs and a half... i really wanna play some comp games plz help me!

have you checked under the control panel and made sure that power saver options and hibernation modes are both turned to "never"
that would be a first step.

step two would be to get a the updates. You can download then on the net without using your Windows Update program. I know for a fact there is a XP Pro kit that will fix that problem for good, and i think it also works with XP as well.

Yep, as steimy says above..

all you need to do is go into "control panel", select "power management" - and in the properties you will see where you can change the monitor power off settings.. simple fix really

Dunno my power scheme is set to Home/Office, you could see if that makes a difference.
