Wireless help

Ok guys, my dad has a slight problem which in turn becomes a problem for me. When he bought his desktop a few years back he didnt know anything about them and bought a dell that can not be expanded (as in u cant open the case to get inside at all). Now here is the prob. He has terrible issues picking up the wireless from the access point in my room becuase he doesnt have an internal wireless card. I got him a USB dongle (or whatever u call it) but i guess its not very powerful. I just read somewhere that a "wifi extender" would do the trick for him but they seem kinda rare and expensive? Also im not really sure how they work, so im just looking for an info you guys can give me on that.

thanks

edit: why is this a prob for me? Because he gets kicked off the wireless so much that he told me to turn off all WEP/WPA keys because he didnt want to have to type them in constantly...giving our home network no security...

Those Wifi Extender are kinda pointless, and mostly home made. Not sure what is the distance between the router and your dad's computer, but if its further than 50 feet, its normal for it to get dropped every now and then. One solution is to get a router MIMO, which is like super wifi. Other than that, you may have to find a way to extend an antenna like from his computer closer to the router.

Wow, i think you need to explain to him exactly why you do not want to turn off the security. You may want to set him up some hot keys or macros on his PC so he can enter the information in the boxes with one click. That is if you do not change it often.

Extenders are suppose to help but i have personally never tried one. I know like Kam said about 50 feet away and my wireless network adapter would lock up every now and then when playing online. Moving it about 10 feet closer to my room where the router is stoped that. Do you have any way to get a wireless adapter and run a 50-100 foot crossover cable around to get him closer to the signal. I know it may be hard to keep the cord out of sight but it may solve the problem.

easiest way is go to your favorite torrent sites and search macros, you will find programs that make it easy.
