Ok guys, so I recently obtained a 2004 model Dell pc. My friend gave it to me because it wouldnt boot, I reinstalled XP, and now I'm at the point where I need to install drivers. Only problem is, I have no idea what model the Dell is.
The video card is on the motherboard, along with the sound card... I can't find the drivers because I don't know what kind of computer it is O_o Anyone know how I can find this out? I tried Version Tracker but got no results... I really would like to get this thing runnin like it is supposed to even if it is crap. Please and thank you.

I checked for driver support for my Dell, and they had plenty of drivers for download, ranging from video drivers to chipset stuff. So if you can find out what model Dell it is, you may well be able to download the drivers from Dell's support section.
Try this, might help: How to Identify your Dell system. - NotebookForums.com

Does the Dell boot up? If so, you could run Crucial's memory scan on it and that should give you the model number.

Well, I'd love to identify this thing. It's missing the front part of the case, like, the cd rom and usb ports are just jutting out of the metal of the case. All the stickers are gone, and I dunno where else to look on it. It does boot up because I installed windows xp on it, and I added a stick of ram... It runs ok, I'm just missin all the drivers for it... I was on dell trying to find them, but theres no way I can know which ones are the correct ones... I'm gonna read LSs' link, and try Crucials out. Thanks to both, it either of you find anything else helpful I'd appreciate it.

Well I know there are utilities which can identify your motherboard and other components in your PC, perhaps if you can find out which mobo you have, you can narrow the search parameters a bit. Try out CPUZ
CPUID Outside of that, maybe try contacting Dell's live help, though I don't know how much use they will be for a second-hand PC.

Lol, I discovered a express service tag on the back of the case. Found all my drivers and such. I completely rebuilt the inside and replaced all the wires and such... It was running great... But, when I went to play a game today, the cooling thing on the processor FELL OUT and it like insta-overheated LOL!
So, now it's not working again, and I need a new processor and motherboard. That's ok though because I'm ordering a new graphics card and some ram with it. =D Thanks for all the help though guys. I appreciate it. Darlyle.
