Hello:Been a while since I been here.
Anyways I had a question and was wondering if any tech pros would be able to help me. I have a computer problem and I would like to get to the bottom of this problem cause it's irritating the hell out of me. I have the following parts: Asus MoBo - A8N-SLI AMD - Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ 2.21 GHz 1.00 GB Kingston Ram Nvidia 7800 SLI card Now the problem is - The damn computer shuts off when I play WoW or Guild Wars for an hour. This is very fustrating if you like to raid or do high lvl areas. I notice the card is really hot when the puter shuts off and the CPU is some what warm.Is this problem caused by lack of cooling or what?I'm lost to as to fix this error.Punqewe and I have tried various things but the problem still persist.Any information as to what I must do would be greatly appreciated. Also if not least - Is there a way to crank the graphics card fan up? Just a thought. |

Lets confirm that its the computer overheating. You can download Everest, a software that lets you check the computer temp. Once you install it. Play WoW or Guildwar, for about 30 mins. Then exit, then check the PC temp. If the PC is over 150F or about 50-60C. Then yes your PC is overheating. What I can recommend is to get a new PC fan, and a PCI cooling fan for the Video card.

His machine and mine are almost identical, except for the video card and the CPU. His CPU does run a bit warmer, but not enough that it should kick out. I think last time I was over we checked it out and under load it got to about 50-52...which under load isn't too bad.
I have replaced the thermal paste on the CPU with some good arctic silver and reseated it properly...so the CPU shouldn't be an issue. I'm leaning towards the GPU maybe since it's the thing that's not the control in this problem....because it's different than mine and my machine doesn't kick out like this. Being an Nvidia card, there should be a temp readout in the driver console...so maybe check that out after playing.....but their threshold is so high that i doubt that's what's doing it. But it's more likely.
