Have you tried updating your firmware and made sure the device is in DMA mode?

Check DMA mode Vista: Club CD Freaks - Knowledge is Power - View Single Post - Troubleshooting: Enabling/Checking DMA in Windows Vista, XP, 2000, Me, 9x

Check for firmware updates here: The Firmware Page :: Index

You can also check for firmware updates through ImgBurn at tools-->drive-->check for firmware updates at the bottom of the drive tools menu.

fixed

I have found a fix to my problem.

i downloaded a program i have known of for a while now called windows advanced cleaner personal (free version) , it's made by iobit.

uninstall all DVD burning software. (i.e. Nero, Alcohol120, ect.)
just install, update and run the full scan.
then install the program you want. (i used Nero 8)

Looks like a typical all-in-one. You probably could have gotten the same results by using any decent registry cleaner. Plus the fact you uninstalled all your burning software means it may have been a conflict with your burning software within Vista that was causing the problem. Either way, glad you got it fixed.

Yeah it was probably the registry leftovers mucking it up for ya. It's definitely good to clean out your registry every couple weeks, keeps things nice and tidy. I remember having an issue with Nero quite awhile ago, where it kept giving me write errors with image files, after cleaning out the registry, the issue fixed itself.

seems the ppl at Ahead need to have a look at there uninstall proceeder as i'm pretty shore it was Nero that started all my problems.

Yeah, Nero is one of those apps that seems to get more buggy with new major releases, i.e. upgrading from 7.9 to 8.0. Some people I know still use Nero 6 because they think all the Nero 7 releases are too buggy. I use Nero Micro personally, it's just Nero Burning ROM and Express, only takes up about 30MB's of HDD space and works very well.
