nVidia or ATI?

Heyy, I'm here with another question.
I am looking into buying a graphics card... since I have onboard memory :|
I went in to a couple of shops and browsed around at nVidia and ATI. I have a budget of $100AUD since dad is a cheapo >.>

Anyone have any reccomendations?
And which is better or more reliable, ATI or nVidia?

Edit- I would also like to know a few things about my CPU.
I have a AMD Sempron 3000+ 1.81ghz. When I look at a website my friend told me about to check your system if it is capable to play certain games.
I tested GTA SA jsut to see what it thought and it came up with the following for CPU speed; You Have: 1.81 GHz Performance Rated at 3.00 GHz.Is this good? Does this mean I have performance speed of a 3GHz cpu?
If not what does this mean?
If anyone would like to know this site it is here:
Can You RUN It?
Thanks people.

If your running AMD, most likely you would be best to get ATI, but Nvidia video cards are much powerful than the ATI cards. But ATI cards have a better AA solution.

Ok, I'm buying a ATI 256mb. But I would like to know if it will work for sure.
I'm at school so im not sure what type of RAM my computer has...
But if I have a DDR3 memory video card.. will it work with DDR2 or DDR RAM?
Does my RAM memory have to be the same as my Video Memory?
eg. DDR2 memory and DDR2 video memory on my video card.

Edit- GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Specification - GA-K8VM800M (Rev 2.x)
That is my motherboard. The memory type is "Type: DDR400/ 333/ 266"

I was looking at a good Video card by ATI that is DDR3.

Thanks people.

Personally i like Nvidia cards myself. I have had mine for about a year now and it has worked great. Not sure about the CPU speed thing as i have never used that site. I always used a program called CPU-Z to get the specs on what mine is running. Also when you start your PC it usually tells you on the very first DOS screen about what the memory and processor is running, at least mine does. And it really depends on the game. I have an XFX GeForce 7600GT (Nvidia) and it ran Rainbow Six Vegas just fine. That was about the best game i had to test it with. I was running a Core2Duo 2.13 (overclocked to 2.4) processor and 2GB (DDR2 667) of RAM.

Although I prefer Nvidia myself (im running a 8600GM) you have chosen to go with ATI for your AMD processor, which was a good choice.

FOr your other question, post the exact card u are looking at and ill see if it will work with ur mobo.

ati are the better cards personally
and as for the cpu question 3GHz is what your cpu performs at
it runs at 1.8
but it does more tasks per clock cycle than a normal cpu, therfore its just short of double the normal performance...

alright, i don't have the time to read through this, but heres your answer to the CPU question. you have it underclocked, it is factory default to 3.0 GHZ and it is running at 1.8 GHZ, and if you are on budget you should go for an ATI card, they are cheaper. and if you can, i would get atleast an anthlon in your computer, semperons are like intels celerons
