Exclamation Flash (NAND and NOR)

ok, i am very good with computers, and i have a project to do in my network systems class, its about flash memory. i have gotten familiar with NOR and NAND, but i know if i just put them in the project i will be asked what they stand for. i have found a site that told me, NAND stood for Not and (electronic logic gate). but i don't know what that means, if i just tell them that i will be asked another question, what does that mean?, then i would be stumped, so i guess that you could figure my problem out... i need help with this, i don't know what to say when i am asked that question, i know its like YAST, yet another system tool, but i don't know what to tell them. thanks in advance to any answers.
