Question DMS4 PRO help!!! HDD problems....

Ok here sthe situation. I just got my PS2 back with a DMS4 Pro SE installed. I burned the ToxicOS (I beleive v0.41) and installed it. All of this has worked great. I then installed my BRAND NEW Maxtor HDD thats when things went bad. When re-booting my PS2 it goes to the ToxicOS screen (screen with ToxicOS for DMS4 Pro) then freezes.....thats it. I then took out the harddrive and now it seems to work fine (although I have not tried to play games on it yet). Toxic OS is all I have installed. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to install HDD Loader and HDD Explorer? Do I need to format the HDD some how? I really am confused. Please help. Also can someone point me to a place that shows me how to burn and install elf files.

Might be a HD compatibility issue, or the jumper settings might not be right. The ToxicOS manual is a good place to start, as are the dms3.com forums.

yes, you need to format it, but that is something ToxicOS would do. After installing ToxicOS, you install a hard drive. Then it will recognize it when you start the PS2 and ask if you want to format it.
also make sure the hard drive is jumpered correctly. and that it is a compatible model.

Thats the problem man, when I install the HDD (I have already installed ToxicOS) it just goes to the ToxicOS for DMS page (grey page with ToxicOS across the top and for DMS4 on the bottom) and freezes there. Nothing else. I have tried to boot in differant modes but nothing. This particular hard drive is on the compatibility list (although its on there for HD loader) and is brand new out of the box. It is a Maxtor Diamondmax21 320GB HDD. I am in serious debate as to selling it and getting a Maxtor 250GB that I saw on e-bay but I really like the idea of the space on this one. I am going home tonight and trying the jumper in differant positions (even though I have it in the master position according to the manual) and see if that helps.

The other thing I thought about doing is hooking it up to my PC and formatting it useing winhiip (the orgram has a ToxicOS button) and seeing if that works but I do not want to screw up this HDD in case I do need to sell it. Any suggestions would be great, I have also been posting on team modders but getting pretty much the same answers. Thanks guys.

only 2 modes i have ever booted mine in is the PS2 browser, which is what it was originally set to do. Then i switched it to load ToxicOS instead once the hard drive was installed. If the manual says master and you are sure it is jumpered that way then it may not be the problem.
Only person i know with a lot of DMS4 install experience is Davbere at Teammodders.com He installed mine into the HD Combo case and installed that hard drive while he was at it. So he is real familiar with installing both the chip and hard drive. You may want to ask him what he thinks before doing anything drastic.

Yeah he did the DMS4 SE Pro install for me and I know that is working as I have already tested it out. Its just the HDD not auto formatting or even being recognized by the PS2 or ToxicOS, kinda makeing me batty.

Dude I wouldn't worry much, I see all the folks in all the forums that have had it done and they have had no problems. I think mine is strictly in my harddrive (maybe not compatible?). I love my DMS4 Pro SE though, plays the games perfectly.

Most likely, that's the simplest explanation, your best bet is to check around the dms forums or contact Team Toxic and check if anyone has similar probs.

Yeah I just put the HDD on my PC and it is recognized on the disk manager so I know that the HDD is good, I think that for whatever reason it just isn't recognized by Toxic. I think I will sell it and get a differant one (I have already found several that are on the PS2 HDD compatibility list) and go from there. I don't know what else to do. Thanks for all the help guys.
