Question Modded PS2 help....

I have modded PS2 with DMS4 Pro SE and a 250GB HDD. I went to play a game back up via disc today and there was a red flash on the screen then it went to a disc read error. I tried again with two different games and the same problem. Any ideas of what it could be? They played fine the first time I played them. All my games on my HDD play great just seems to be an issue with discs. Any help would be great. :censored:

It could be the laser, you could clean it with rubbing alcohol.

Just curious fright, but did you purchase that system refurbished, or did you send in your own fat PS2 to get chipped?

Yeah I'd try cleaning the laser, and make sure you're using quality DVD Media.

What about the possibility of the ground not being strong enough to play the disks but can easily read the HDD

Could be, but adjusting the voltage on the pots is the third or fourth thing to try for read probs. Best to rule out dirty laser, crap media, burk burns/burner. One thing to test is originals, that will provide some input into whether anything is physically off with the laser.

Actually it's my original fat PS2, not a refurb. Everything worked great a week or two ago, I haven't been using discs since my HDD install and when I went to put them in there was a red flash on the screen, some popping, clicking noises inside the PS2 and then it went to the disc read error page. I am using good media (as I say they all worked fine earlier) and none of my originals are working either. I will try and clean it tonight. I had to open it a couple weeks ago to check for loose wires (my HDD wasn't working at that time) so is it possibel the lense got dirty or I somehow knocked it out of alignment?

Meant bunk burns as in coasters. If your originals aren't working that's not a good sign. Try cleaning the laser. It that doesn't work, then you may want to try adjusting the voltage on the pots.

OK I will clean it tonight after work and then go from there. So am I correct in that the HDD install draws more power away from the laser and so it needs to be adjusted to correct this issue or am I wrong on this? If so is there a tuorial on this somewhere?
