Chipping a version 1 PS2

Is it possible? A friend of mine got his in 2001. The only thinkg ever wrong with it was the laser wouldn't read discs, but Sony took it back and fixed it. He wants to send his to TM to get chipped. Any issues with chipping a PS2 mobo with either a Crystal or DMSE 4 Pro SE??

Just the motherboard design. It takes about two hours to chip a v1-3 PS2, compared to 45 minutes for v4 PS2's and later. The motherboard design is stacked, so each layer has to be desoldered, the chip installed, and everything resoldered before it's ready to go. Because of the difficulty installed, almost no site will bother, TM included. Your friend's best bet is to get a cheap PS2 second hand (I always say fat is better), v4 or later. That way you'll be able to get it modded no probs. Aside from that, he could contact Evan or Dave and see if they'd be willing to do it.

I did one,and I'll prolly never do another one again....the points are freakin small and there are ALOT of them. That aside, the whole design is insanly idiotic.

I'm sure there'll be someone out there willing to do one,but most likely for a bit more of a charge than a later model one.
