Your better off getting a modchip. The cost of swap magic + case a price of a good cheap reliable modchip.

I am about to get swap magic. There is a bunch of games that i want to get but they are all PAL. With swap magic can i play both PAL and NTCS?

Yeah for the most part Swap Magic will work with most PAL games, just need to flip the region to PAL in the menu. I say a bit more and get a quality modchip like the DMS 4 Pro SE, Matrix Infinity Green Dot, or the Crystal Chip 2.0. Swapping discs all the time is tedious. A modchip also has PSX support, DVD-9 (Dual Layer) support, doesn't require a swap or a case mod, and allows the user to be totally discless when launching HD Loader in Devolution mode (off the memory card). A modchip+shipping+installation will run $100, Swap Magic+case mod is about $30.
In my opinion the ease of use of a modchip far outweighs the price difference, but that's your call. TeamModders v2 :: The ultimate modding forums! is the best mod site around, I don't think I need to rep em too much, since I do everywhere esle lol. Davbere, Evan, and Sadalius are honest, reliable, and excellent modders. Check em out!

Get it chipped by Teammodders. I had swap magic once. The ease of a modchip is like night and day when compared to a disc swap. And Teammodders provides a great service. I got 2 consoles chipped by them already.

So i can just change it from NTCS to PAL and vise versa? I would get it chipped but this system is pretty old and not really any new games would come out. Its kind of too late, what do you guys think?

Depends on how much you play it. Newer games coming out doesn't make much difference if there are alot of older games you wanna play. There are still a lot of quality PS2 games, some which look really good.
If the money isn't an issue go with a modchip. If money is an issue, then Swap Magic will allow you to play backups along with a casemod. Yes Swap Magic will support games from any region with a simple option switch at the boot menu.

well i have an xbox i use xbmc its all that i would ever want. I was a big fan of ps2 but i sold it and never played video games. I moved in with my aunt and my lil cousin has a ps2 so ive just been playin with him. He is like 7 so i think the swap magic is a better option just to hook him up u know. money is a bit of a prob too so u know.
ALright well we know that swap magic plays both pal and ntcs. what about xbox softmodded, does that play both pal and ntcs? i just want to clear this up. thanks |

A softmodded Xbox will more or less do all things a modchipped Xbox will do. You don't want to mess with any of the softmod files, have to take extra care when switching dashes, and don't wanna mess with unlocking the HD or anything. Screwing up any of those things can result in boot errors which may not be fixable without an eeprom backup or a modchip. For instance if you are going to switch out a HD on a softmodded Xbox, then the easiest best way is to format the HD on a modchipped Xbox, transfer over any necessary softmod files, all the dashes, emus, and apps you need, and lock the HD on the modchipped Xbox. Then you can slap it in the softmodded Xbox and all will be ready to go.
