By "Drive Thing" I am assuming that you are referring to a network adapter. This is needed (for a fat PS2), as it is the only way to connect the PS2 to the outside world. They are cheap. I don't connect to my PC. I connect straight to my router. You need the PS2 online disc to register your network adapter.

I haven't heard of a wireless adapter for the PS2, except for wireless controllers. There is always the Belkin Wirelesss Gaming Bridge Adapter (Link) which is about $100 (read the pdf manual for the latest F5D7330 version 2xxx). You still have to connect the console to this adapter via an ethernet cable. Not worth it IMO unless you really can't hardwire the PS2 to the router due to physical constraints. I am not aware of anything Sony has made to connect online wireless.

I connect with an ethernet cable. Wireless routers usually have 4 ports for connecting via hardwire. It's a pain because my router is in another room, but I would rather spend $2 and make my own long ethernet cable than pay $100 for a separate device. If you really want wireless, try searching ebay for a cheap bridge adapter like the Belkin one I mentioned. I believe Netgear also makes one.
