Ive tried using Decrypter,Img Burn,and Nero 7 and nothings working.Im using sony dvd-r's which are good and using the new swap magic 3.8 or whichever it is.can anyone give me some tips or what to look for or specific settings?maybe theres something im missing.i kind of got 1 to start playing but froze.booktyping is dvd-r.ive tried burning at 2x and 4x.let me know what else you need to know and i can post it.

Don't be so quick to dismiss the media, my PS2 did not like Sony DVD-R's. If they are 16x DVD-R's, then they could be TYG03 which is good media, but they might be Sony Media ID, which people have had a fair amount of probs with in my experience. The PS2 is super picky with media, Verbatim's and Taiyo Yuden's generally have the most success for game backups.

The other red flag is Swap Magic 3.8, a lot of people have issues with it. Whatever changes they made from 3.6, it definitely has a caused a lot of people to pull out their hair. What kind of case mod are you using? I.E. Flip top, Slide card, slim tool, etc.

Do original games work okay?

ive tried multiple media.im using the slide tool.original games are playing fine no issues.i actually got a staples crap brand dvd-r to start to load a few times.it was like yest i was so close and they would get to the loading screen and now nothings working.i updated the firmware on my dvd burning and also downloaded that nero file thats recommended in the sticky WNASPI32.dll file.i though that was the issue because dvd decrypter was saying "failed to set dvd data for dvdplayonarrival" but i tried it on a different computer and it made no difference.any suggestions?maybe get swap magic 3.6 exchanged for the current 1?could someone tell me all their exact settings for either image burn dvd decrypter or nero?i know its alot of settings but i need to figure out whats going on.any help is much appreciated.ill be posted a tutorial for the Nintendo wii to help too.

Well at least that's a start. Lemme specify with the media. Trying multiple media doesn't mean much. Unless you specifically bought Verbatim's or Taiyo Yuden from the store. What's important is the Media ID, viewable under manufacturer/Media ID in ImgBurn and DVD Decrypter. Report the different Media ID's you've tried. I don't think it's a driver issue from what you described, more likely crap media/Swap Magic 3.8/slide card related.

Using the slide card, are you remembering to seal the disc tray manually on the last slide, don't just push it in all the way by hand. Push it in as far as possible by hand and use the hook on the slide card to seal it. Here's a slide card guide: Slide Card Installation and Usage Instructions

i put both media i had in and it gave me some wierd 0P' stuff under media ID it didnt show up on any of the links which is why i think there might be a problem somewhere in the settings or whatever,maybe when i did the DMA or something.im doing the slide tool just like it says and can feel when it locks and unlocks.i also emailed swap magic to get input from them.i know itd a PITA but could someone post up all their settings and whats checked/unchecked in dvd decrypter/IMG Burn so i can be sure its not the software,ie that somethings checked that it shouldnt be.

also i noticed that no matter which computer or what program it doesnt give me the option to book type,everything is automatically book typed to dvd-r and i also cant use the nero dvd/cd speed test thing to check the quality either.

You can't booktype DVD-R's, just DVD+R's, DVD+R DL's, or DVD+RW's. Do you mean the Media ID wasn't present in DVD Decrypter, or the Media ID you have doesn't show up in any link lists? If the latter is true, then you've found your problem. If I'm not mistaken, Staples brand media is made in India, so god knows what kinda crap media it is. Whatever it is, it shouldn't come near your PS2.

I think for the most part we've alleviated laser problems and Swap Magic issues, which leads me back to crap media. You can take my word for it or not, that's up to you.

As far as settings, DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn work outta the box for burning anything really, you shouldn't have to adjust any settings for ripping/burning PS2 games. So I really doubt that's the issue. You can get Verbatim's for cheap at places like Sam's Club, CompUSA, Best Buy, etc. Taiyo Yuden's are a bit harder to come by, unless you know where to look. 16x Sony DVD-R's made in Japan should be Taiyo Yuden, media ID TYG03. The last possibility is a hardware issue with your burner or something. That's generally the last thing to look at though. Do you have access to another computer with a burner? If possible rip and burn an original game on that PC and see if it works. That way you can eliminate a crappy iso as the cause of your problems. If it works fine on another PC, then you can begin to think about potential hardware problems.

ok i got the media ID to show up on a dvd+r just not the -r's i had.its a memorex brand.id like to try this and book type the +r but in every program it doesnt let me.its a sony dvd burner DW U12A 2.0.in img burn it says the current setting is unknown fail.dvd decrypter wont show a book typing option and nero wont let me edit the book typing.can u help me sort through that?how can i get it to let me change it.

Yeah I'd track down some Verbatim's or Taiyo Yuden's and try that out. I really think the most likely issue is crap media. Memorex is probably CMC mag dyes, which are terrible for the PS2. So that's my recommendation- track down some good media at one of the sites I listed.

Yuck that thing is a POS tech wise. Dunno after reading its specs, I wouldn't be shocked if it's a hardware issue. One question, what speed media are you using? From the reviews, it looks like that thing works best with 4x media, which is hard to find nowadays. It may just not work well with 8x media.

I have downloaded sonics gt4 ripkit for this game. I have followed this guide from the start to the end but when i burn the iso to disc and play it a screen comes up with a sony screen and then changes to a screen with the polyphonic logo and then freeze's

please could some one tell me what i am doing wrong:-(

Is the Sony screen white? If so, press X QUICKLY and it "should" work. After that go into options and disable the opening movie.

This is just what I read on the subject from somewhere else, if it doesnt work im sorry.
