Reading disc problems NOT DISK READ ERROR

Well I know I should not be on these forums because in the past I have been banned. But I believe this is the only forums next to teammodders, which seems to be down, that will have any clue as to how to fix my problem.

I have a V7 PS2 that i modded and after some time and effort i got it to work like a dream. This past weekend i took it with me on a trip and during the trip it worked fine. I just decided to plug it in and try out a game and all it was doing was reading my disc. Not a disk read error but actually just sitting there saying "Reading Disc" I figured I would let it go and after i got out of the bathroom it was still there. So I thought maybe something got disconnected in the move process so when i opened it up nothing was damaged nor was anything disconnected. so i blew out some dust, cleaned the lens, and figured that was all. NOPE. still doing it and its with every disc. I even disabled my modchip to see if that worked but that didn't work either.

I was reading a few other forums and it seems that every one is confusing this problem with the disk read error issue. So naturally i tryied fixing that by turning the cog wheel and after over an hour trying every single notch on that damn thing STILL the same thing is happening.

Im wondering if you guys can help me to find out what to do and IF in fact this is a lens problem and where to buy the part to replace it.

First off, the past is the past, so no point in worrying about that.

Have you tried adjusting the angle and height of the laser? It could be your laser is on the way out, a good way to check is to test it out with original PS2 games and DVD movies. If it doesn't read any originals, hardware failure could be a possibility.

Here's some stuff to check out:

THanks but i tried using the cog wheel behind the laser to adjust the angle but like i said before its not a Dic Read Error problem that so many people have problems with. When i put in ANY CDs or DVD media it just sits there saying "Reading Disc" and it will stay doing that for as long as I have the PS2 on. But I'm figuring that the laser just took a dive for the worse.

I was reading earlier and someone said that the lens might be out of alignment how is it that i fix that? they were not specific on how to do it.

Okay. Have you tried adjusting the voltage of the PS2 laser by tweaking the pots on the bottom of the laser? It is best to do so with a multimeter, but you can also use a marker, felt-tip pin or something to mark the starting point. Don't adust the starting point any further than 3 o'clock. This will increase the voltage to the laser. Doing so could potentially shorten its lifespan, but should increase the boot rate, assuming the laser isn't shot. That is covered in the links I posted. It may not say Disc Read Error, but the laser continually sitting there reading is a DRE prob of sorts. So go through those guides and try everything they mention. If nothing there works, it may he a hardware issue.

When you are referring to the voltage are you talking about the White wheel that is near the laser?. Because that guide you gave me is what i tried even before i posted this thread. i tried EVERY notch. took me like an hour and a half.

But i will try this voltage thing to see if that works

If not then im going to say ef it and buy a new laser. they are like what 40$.

Also, Totally off the subject, what happened to the team modders website did they move or get a new domain name?

Yeah the white pots on the bottom of the laser. There is one for DVD and CD. They control the voltage that goes to the PS2 laser. Pumping up the voltage can increase the boot rate, but may shorten the life of the laser. It sounds like your laser might be shot by the sound of it, that is more likely than anything to do with modchip hardware issues considering the install is from TM.

The ones in this picture:

TM is closed indefinitely as a result of the feds raids on modders and people who import modchips a couple weeks back.
