Playing Divx movies using USB HD?

I have a PS2 Slim SCPH-77001 with DMS4 Pro S.E.

I was wondering it's possible to play Divx movies that are on the USB HD using my PS2? If it's possible, is there a guide? I couldn't find any. Thanks

The PS2 dont play DivX off the bat, you need to get PS2 Media Player. And that will play DivX, but it will lag and stutter.

You can watch DivX/XviD files off an IDE Hard Drive with PS2 Media Player Pro. I don't think USB is supported. If it is, it would lag badly as Kam indicated. The USB data transfer rate is just too slow for use with PS2. Since you have a v15 PS2, there is no way to use IDE HD's with the PS2, the solder points for HD Combo were removed starting with v14 PS2's.

Just but a DivX capable DVD player with USB ports. I have one from Philips and it will even upscale to HD. And they are pretty cheap as mine was about $70. I do not notice the upscaling with regular DVD's but i do with DivX files.

Also, in case you have a modified Xbox, XBMC will upscale movie files and dvd's to 720p or 1080i no probs. From what I've read, the upscaling with it is just as good or better than most upscaling DVD players.

LS, do you know if adding a USB port to the Xbox would allow you to use a external hard drive to play media from? I really never researched it because i just streamed them. But i figure the quality may be netter from a USB hard drive.

Yeah you can do that. Make sure it's USB 2.0. XBMC and UnleashX have support for FAT32 partitions, I know you can stream media from a USB HD. Whether or not it's worthwhile, I've read conflicting info. From what I could discern, USB 1.1 with the Xbox is a total waste of time, but 2.0 will stream okay.

You'll want to research it further to be 100% sure though.

no, not for me personally i am fine with streaming it wirelessly to my XBMC, and i do not even use my Xbox anymore. I just buy DVD's as they are really cheap, burn the DivX files as a data CD and slap them in my upconverting DVD player. Usually only one's i have are UFC events anyway. Which reminds me there is another coming up the 17th of this month. I love that they now have HDTV DivX files on them which are much higher quality then the older versions they use to put up.
