Major Problem

O.K. I decided after reading how good Bit Defender was to try it out. I installed the trial version on my computer but realized I forgot to deactivate the other anti-virus. My computer crashed. I restarted it and since I didn't get a chance to go to msconfig or delete / deactivate one of the AV, when I restarted both were activated at the same time. All my programs would not load.. like msn exc. errors all over the place. It crashed again.

Later on I tried restarting but this is what happened. It went to the windows XP loading screen, went black and restarted. It keeps doing this now and will not even go to the login.

I was able to start from Safe mode ONCE. In that time I tried deleteing / deloading one of the antivirus and it would not let me. I restarted, but now it wont even let me access my system recovery screen. "The safe mode screen". I can only enter the BIOS.

I tried poping in the XP cd and going to recovery console. I tried fixing the boot sector from there and it wouldn't work.

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions besides formatting >_<. I kind of feel like a tool at the moment. Perhaps a DOS command I can use to eliminate one of the AV's?

Thanks for help in advance.

Have you tried creating a boot disk to see if you can get your system to load again?

Not really a good idea. A lot of flash/firmware updates to motherboards utilize floppy drive. It's a good idea to have at least one in your house.

To avoid that in the future, I recommend you build your own PC. As for the floppy drive, and boot disk...it's the only thing I can think of to get through a system that won't boot based on your situation. You could purchase a floppy drive (internal or external) at a local tech store and get it done.

A format/reinstall might be your only choice, frankly I dunno for sure. That should be the last option, unless you don't care about the files currently on your HD. If you can get into your bios, you can set to boot XP off disc for a format/reinstall, again, you will lose any files currently on your HD.

I know for Xbox flashing purposes a USB stick can be used for a boot disk, are there USB boot disks for general purposes?

Well guys I managed to get it into safe mode again. I just burned all my important files and formatted. I tried all your suggestions but unfortunately none of them worked. Thank you for your help though, =D

You tried a boot disk and that didn't work?? Just curious. Either way, you got into safe mode which is one of the few ways to go in the case you were in. You didn't lose your files...happy ending.

not sure, but I know you can browse your partitions using knoppix...and I know there's a live windows cd out there somewhere...so if you were to use the live windows cd,it jst might let you delete files since they really wouldn't be running.

I'm not sure though..,...havent had to try it.

1.download tune up utilities

2.install tune up utilities

3.boot into safe mode

4.run tune up utilities

5.in tune up utilities go to ( file recovery & destruction )

6.click on tuneup shredder

7.a new window will pop up

8.it will ask you "what would you like to delete" mark folders

9.then select the installation folder of the antivirus
for example . C:/program files/"your antivirus!!??"

10.select the folder

11.when selected click next

12.it will ask you witch way you want it deleted

13.mark the "Secure Delete, Gutmann method"

14.Click next (it will take a while)

15.should work again

oh i forgot to tell ye , 1st disable the startup entry for the antivirus in safe mode from tune up look for "Tune up Start up manager"

it should work

That might work, but he said it reboots at the XP logo everytime, unless you can install tuneup through dos or something.
