0x89 - New Custom W.I.P. PSP Firmware Status Update

This is sounding good can not want to play

Quote:
A short while ago we announced 0x89 - a new custom PSP firmware project which aims to be a totally fresh XMB for the PSP. Just recently we had the chance to catch up with the Harleyg (project leader) and give him a mini-interview about the project.

1) How many are in the team currently and what are your positions?

HarleyG: There are currently 6 of us:

- harleyg (me) - Project leader and coder,
- Zettablade - GUI coder,
- jas0nuk - Module coder,
- Master inuYasha - Noobie coder ,
- Whazilla - Coder and
- Piny - Graphics designer.

2) What are the aims of your project, how will it benefit psp hackers across the world?

HarleyG: Our aim is to create a new, easy to use firmware (duh) with alot of the features from 2.00+, e.g RSS, web browser, media codecs (hopefully we can get more than just PMP), streaming (music and video) etc.

We are also aiming for a simple, clean and effective GUI, but better than sonys! We wont give out too much information on the GUI yet, but it will not be like other shells (windows like).

We aren't sure how itll benifit alot of hackers around the world though, although alot of the modules will be open source... maybe that'll help em?

3) What are you currently working on at the moment?

HarleyG: Zettablade is doing alot of work on the GUI right now and doing the most coding out of all of us. Me and jas0nuk are writing the loader, i have a temporary one now but we want to unload as many of the sony prx's we can in the 0x89 environment.

Master inuYasha is just hanging around in irc talking over ideas etc as his rather new to coding in C... we are kinda teaching him.Whazilla, who im doing other hardware projects with is currently editing an unreleased GU libary from lokust, who we also talk to in irc, he is also working on an XML lib that we can use.

Piny is also talking over ideas and helping us with our graphical needs. Overall, we are just playing with the GUI and trying to finalise a design... at the moment we are sure we have the menu's mapped out how we want.

Hopefully we can get you guys a screenshot of the GUI soon.

4) Where do you see the project in six months on from now ? How long do you forsee this going on for?

HarleyG: Well, for me I would like to continue this firmware and keep improving it... yet not turn into another sony Hopefully, if the team feel the same way as me, we will still be going in six month's updating it.

5) When can we expect a full release?

HarleyG: ooh, its the big question! We cant give an estimate yet, but im guessing a month or so, but dont quote me on that!
