Sony has dropped the expectations for PSP sales this fiscal year, which runs from July 2006 to July 2007. The initial target was 12 million units, and now it's just 9 million. This announcement comes just after the adjustment of Sony's financial forecast following a combination of poor PSP sales, the issue of exploding laptop batteries, and future losses on the making of PS3.
As you all know, the PSP isn't a failure and it has a great number of followers both in the homebrew scene and elsewhere. Sony's Chief Financial Officer Nobuyuki Oneda was keen to outline Sony's future marketing plans for the PSP. He states, "We'll have to increase the ways of enjoying the PSP, with the development of software and peripherals. Sony Computer Entertainment is currently investigating solutions." Lets hope that with a new firmware release coming soon and the addition of peripherals such as the PSP Camera, sales of the world's most versatile handheld get back on track. Source : IGN
