Using flashget with premium accounts

Ok, this is a simplified tutorial on how to use some features of flashget with a rapidshare premium account.. for other file hosting premium accounts just alter the site manager part accordingly (step 1).

Ok, get the program flashget if you do not already have it HERE
OR the portable version HERE

I'm going to do this tutorial as if for the portable version(which I use) - but it should be much the same for ANY version.

1. Firstly, change some settings in flashget so that they are similar to mine below... change any settings that differ from my own.. especially connection settings etc.

Ok, first go to options

You'll start at the general tab

Connection tab.. enter YOUR info here so as to make it work more efficiently.

Others.. just make it so that it's like mine.. unless you know better.

Site manager - now this is where the premium account comes in handy.. select Add site

Enter the URL as I have for rapidshare... and check the login to server box.. and then enter your rapidshare account info in the boxes.. I have mine set to unlimited connections.. then click OK

Now we come to the dial-up settings.. I don;t know if anyone still uses it, but this is where you enter your settings for this.. I have mine set to never dial as I use broadband.

Right now you can click the OK button.

Now we can go to the Default download properties box.

Here I usually enter my login info and default download properties.. (you only have to do this once) I usually set mine to Manual so that I choose when to start it downloading... but for the purposes of this tutorial I have left them set as Immediate so I can show you that it works.

Now Save the default like below.

2. - Now I'll show you a method of saving your download url's as a text file.

Go to a site that has the rapidshare urls that you want..

Highlight the urls and right mouse click, you get the menu appear.. click on copy

Open up a new text file and call it something like flashget.lst - paste the urls into the text file.... repeat step 2 as needed to get however many urls you want to go into the text file... then save the text file.

3. - Now, once you have all the urls in a text file, you have to import it into flashget.

Go to File and Import list

You should now have a browse window appear. Select the text file you created earlier, and click Open.

You should then see a url selection/confirm screen.. select which urls you want to download and then click OK

Because I had my settings set to Immediate you can now see the downloads working

and

4. You can also use flashgot to get your download urls if you want... go to the link(in red) that I just posted and download flashgot from there.. it installs into your Firefox browser and will enable after restarting the browser.

Then instead of doing step 2, you can just select Flashgot selected from the right click mouse menu. It will open the url select box as it did when importing in step 3.

I recommend that if you use flashgot, you have the default set to manual so that it will queue the files for you after selection.. and then you can start the downloads manually when you've finished adding files.

Ok, well I hope that was informative and easy to understand.

If you have any questions/comments about this tutorial, please reply, and I'll try to answer them

Cool - glad that it's helping people

@steimy, sory man I never did get back to you.. my life has been kinda hectic trying to fit everyhting in lately.. the answer to whether this will work with free downloads is NO i'm afraid I forgot about the page where you have to choose FREE or premium DL.. and if you click FREE you're taken to a page where you have to wait a little while for a server to become enabled and then enter a code to get the link to work.

Well, there could be a number of reasons..

1. Have you got a premium account with the filehost?

2. Have you input the filehost account information in properly?

3. Are the files even still there on the filehost for you to download?

The answer is yes to all your questions....And note that this is not the first time this happens. It has on all the programs I've tried...

OK, some more questions for you..

It is a rapidshare account you are trying to download with right?

And do the downloads work properly if you download through the browser instead?

If you're using rapidshare.com - don't input the account info into the site manager(in fact delete the site manager info for rapidshare.com as it works better without it).. just input your login info in the download properties area

And make sure that the info is correct for each download or batch download you do.
