How to Activate Compiz Fusion in Gutsy Gibbon

The latest version of Ubuntu, Gutsy Gibbon 7.10, has Compiz Fusion 3D Packages installed and updates are received when released. In the previous version, manual installs of Compiz or Beryl took more time and performance was still in test phases.

Are you not sure what Compiz Fusion can do? Here are some screenshots of one of my desktops that have the application enabled:

To get Compiz Fusion working in Gutsy Gibbon, just do the following:

> Go Applications > Add/Remove



> In the 'Show' box, make sure 'All Available Applications' is selected
> Type compiz in the Search Box and select Advanced Desktop Effects Settings - then press 'apply changes'



> Once the new install has been applied, you can edit the 3D settings of Compiz 'til your heart is content!

If it still doesn't load for you after it's installed you can always do what I do in 7.04. Since I don't have it running when I play games cause of some issues with graphix.

Just use the Alt+F2 command to bring up the RUN command line. Then just type in compiz --replace and then enter. It will load your compiz for you now.
