How to Remove Icons from the Desktop

How to Remove Icons from the Desktop

For those of us that like those clean desktops, here is how you can get it done in Ubuntu and other LInux distros...

> Press Alt + F2
> Type:
Code:
gconf-editor
> Navigate the left column of the module that appears:
Apps --> Nautilus --> Desktop
> HIghlight 'desktop'
> In the right column, uncheck volumes_visible - that's it!!

Nothing will be on your desktop, but if you go to 'Places' in the default menu bar you will see the items there like they were before. To replace the items on your desktop navigate to the 'volumes_visible' option again and check the box again.

Yeh, hard drives, usb drives, external hard drives, etc...are usually the only thing in Ubuntu that can't be removed by just deleting.
