How to Remove Icons from the Desktop
For those of us that like those clean desktops, here is how you can get it done in Ubuntu and other LInux distros... > Press Alt + F2 > Type: Code:
gconf-editor Apps --> Nautilus --> Desktop > HIghlight 'desktop' > In the right column, uncheck volumes_visible - that's it!! ![]() Nothing will be on your desktop, but if you go to 'Places' in the default menu bar you will see the items there like they were before. To replace the items on your desktop navigate to the 'volumes_visible' option again and check the box again. |

I only have my hard drive mounts on my desktop...other than that it's all in HOME.

Yeh, hard drives, usb drives, external hard drives, etc...are usually the only thing in Ubuntu that can't be removed by just deleting.
