Hey guys, just though I'd make a tut and teach ya'll how to use Shockwave in Ubuntu.
Step 1: You need to download WINE. WINE lets you run some Windows apps on Ubuntu To Get this, simply open up a terminal (Applications>Accessories>Terminal), and type in sudo apt-get install wine This will install Wine. Step 2: We need something called Mozplugger. allows applications to embed themselves inside Firefox. To get this, open a terminal and type sudo apt-get install mozplugger Step 3: We need to edit the mozplugger config file now, so were again going to open a terminal and type: sudo gedit /etc/mozplugger Step 4: Add the following to the end of the file application/x-director: dir,dcr,dxr,cst,cct,cxt,w3d,fgd,swa: Macromedia Director file swallow(firefox.exe) fill: wine "C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla Firefox\\firefox.exe" -chrome "file://Z:$file" Step 5: Download and install the Windows version of Firefox here Step 6: In the Windows version of firefox, goto Adobe - Test Adobe Shockwave and Flash Players and download shockwave (may have to do a manual install, meaning you may have to download the exe and install manually) Step 7: Next, we need to locate /.mozilla/firefox/pluginreg.dat and delete it (it will regenerate itself) NOTE: You may have to goto view and enable "Show hidden files and folders" Step 8: Goto any website that requires shockwave, such as the infamous shockwave.com and test out the game! Enjoy! Any questions, feel free to PM me. |
