Guide: Homebrew channel - TP install

This guide will walk you through the instillation of the Homebrew Channel using the Twilight Princess Hack. No one will be held responsible if anything goes wrong. You do this at your own risk.

The Homebrew Channel is an application that installs to your Wii menu.
It organizes your homebrew applications and makes it easier to launch them.

All files needed for this guide can be found at The Homebrew Channel homepage under the download section.

If you have firmware 3.2 firmware or below on your Wii the ISO installer will probably be easier. Those that have 3.3 will need to use the TP hack.

YOU SHOULD READ ALL THE READ ME FILES FOR ALL APPLICATIONS!

Applications needed...
twilight-hack-v0.1-beta1.zip
the_homebrew_channel-beta_8.tar.gz
hbc_apps.tar.gz (this is not mandatory but some useful applications are included in this pack).

Other required items are...
Wii version of The Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess.
A 2GB (non-SDHC) SD card formated to FAT16
SD compatible Card reader or USB adapter.

If you have a game save for Twilight Princess (TP) you might want to transfer it to your SD card then to your PC for safe keeping.

1) Connect the SD card to PC for access.

2) Extract the twilight-hack-v0.1-beta1.zip file then transfer the folder named private to the root of the SD card.

3) Extract the_homebrew_channel-beta_8.tar.gz file and transfer the file named boot.elf to the root of the SD card (all other folder/files are not needed in this download). Now create a new folder in the root of the SD card naming it apps.

If you downloaded the hbc_apps.tar.gz file then extract that and drag all the folders inside hbc_apps (the folders inside it not the folder itself) to the root of the SD card (if it ask you to overwrite choose yes to all).

You should now have a folder and file directory similar to the below images(This is an image of all required files and the optional application pack added to SD Card)...

After you have done the above steps place the SD Card into your Wii system. Go to the Wii Game Save Management screen and choose the SD Card TAB and copy the TP hack game save over to the Wii memory.

Now insert the Wii version of Twilight Princess in the Wii drive (if you have a USA version of TP before inserting the disc read the ** below)...

**There are 2 version of Twilight Princess for USA regions. To identify which version you have take your Zelda disc, flip it over so that the data side is facing you, and look for a small line of text next to the inner edge of the disc, between the raised circle of plastic and the data area. If the text reads "RVL-RZDE-0A-0", you have a v0 game and you should select the TwilightHack0 savegame.

Now go to the disc channel and start Twilight Princess.

At the game save menu there are 4 game saves. You need to select the proper region game save that corresponds with your Wii system region (remember USA has two versions of TP check ** to identify what version you have).

After you have loaded the proper game save and the game starts walk Link backward.

This will launch The Homebrew Channel installer. After it loads the installer you will get a disclaimer screen about the dangers of installing this hack (discussed in the read me file that you should have already read). If you still want to continue then follow the instructions to complete the instillation.

After it has been installed you can now start the Homebrew channel located on the Wii menu. Once you have launched the channel you will be greted with a menu listing all your homebrew applications that you have added in the apps folder.

For further information on how to manually add applications not included in the above application pack visit The Homebrew Channel website and read the FAQ.

To uninstall The Homebrew Channel just use the data Screen Management as you would any normal channel.

You can now delete the boot.elf (used only for Homebrew Channel install) and TP hack located in the root of the SD Card and Wii Game Save Mangment screen.

If you had a TP game save backed up don't forget to transfer it back.
