Xbox fried

I have a question about an Xbox HDD. I upgraded my Xbox to a 300GB HDD a while back and added all my games onto the HDD. I have close to 100 Games on it.

Well this weekend my Xbox got fried. There was a burnning smell and it sounded like a transistor was frying. My Xbox will turn on but once it gets hot enough it will turn off.

I want to bebale to save the games off the HDD. Can I somehow connect the Xbox HDD to my computer and transfer the games to my computer HDD off the hard drive on the Xbox (instaled on my computer) and make them into Disc. I guess what i am asking is will I bebale to accsses the Xbox HDD hard drive to save my games if I hook it up to my computer.

Or am I stuck with waiting till I get another Xbox and softmoding that and then changing the EEPROM on the 300GBHDD with the new Xbox EEPROM.

well you are pretty much stuf with waiting til you get a new xbox and swap out the hdd's assuming you have backed up the eeprom...if you hook up the hdd to the computer it will format the hdd and you will loose everything...see if u cant borrow a friends xbox and put a chip in it temporarily to FTP to get the files cause remember the hdd doesn't need to be locked to be able to FTP...only for the M$ dash does it need to be locked...

have you tried checking the fuse on the PSU? That could be blown...also is the fan working? the heatsink making contact with the CPU? you may just need to replace the PSU in order to get it working...

Hope this helps!

I just formated the drive. I had the EEPROM and unlocked the drive. I put it in the computer but couldnt accsses the folders. It dosent matter my Nephew has all the games I had on his HDD because I modded his Xbox and placed what I had on his. So ill just use his HDD next time to transfer over the games to a new HDD when I get enough money to get an Xbox.

I actully was plaining on burrning all the games onto disc and reinstall the orignal Xbox HDD so i could use my 300GB in my computer. Guess I dont have to burn them anymore.

As to the Xbox. It is fried. You can smell the resistores that where burrning inside. The smell got real bad. It got to the point that it wouldnt stay on for more then 5 minutes and shut back off. You could hear poping noise inside also. (yes the fan was working, yes the heat sink is seated correctly) It was just an old Xbox and I got alot of use out of it. Now I have it for spare parts if I need any for my new Xbox.

Thanks anyway for the help.

sorry to hear that man, guess now it might be the best time to upgrade to the 360 if you don't already have one. Unless you are like me and plan on waiting until it can be modded so you can actually play most of the games you have

should be able to pick up a used or refirbished one fairly cheap these days.
I know i got mine, premodded for $15o

I can get a refurb for $118 or a new 1 for $150. I will probably wait to get the $150 or I will tell my Mother and Siater to look for Xbox's that people might be selling at Yard Sales. Maybe I can get it cheaper that way.

For the 360 I am also waiting till it is modable. I uasly wait till systems can be modded before getting them.

You don't have to wait much longer. If you can find a 360 with a toshiba-samsung dvd drive you can mod them right now.

I would not pay 150 for a new one if i could get a chipped one for around that.
Gamestop sells refurbs for $119.
Teammodders normal price for premod with DuoX2 (used usually bought from places like Gamestop) for $190

Gamestop is what I was talking about when it came with the Used 1. I just dont know if I wanna take the chance with A used/Refurb unit. Who knows how old it would be or how well the person that had it before took care of it.

Thats why I was going with the new 1. An extra $30 for a new 1 dosent seem bad. Plus I have no problems modding an Xbox. I dont want it Hardmodded. I would rather it be softmodded and I could do that with my eyes closed. At least with a new 1 I know what I would be getting, with a refurb or used 1 you really dont.
