It reduces the chances of skipping and error in general. I burn at 16X. Takes an extra minute or two, but I never have skipping, and I use the worst CD's prolly ever made.

I burn at 24x for music CD's, doesn't seem to make much difference from 16x. I just equate it as 24x for music CD's=8x for DVD's.

Make sure your firmware is up to date and your burner is in DMA mode.

Check firmware here: http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php

I try to update the firmware but i think i already have the most updated one eventhought i have not updated it since i got my pc. I have the DVr-109, i have tried several sites to find the firmware but im guessing i already have the most updated one. So far for the DMA i cant seem to find it or my pc doesnt have it. I go to my PC etc, u know and when i double click my burner it takes me to properties but not like the ones on the posts. If you guys have any more ideas, I would appreciate them. thanks

Right click my computer from the start menu, click properties. Click the hardware tab-->device manager. Under device mananger click IDE/ATAPI devices. Doubleclick whichever IDE channel your optical drive (burner) is on and click advanced features. See if's labeled as DMA or PIO. If it's PIO, change it to DMA using that guide. You could try another app for burning CD's, or try cleaning out your registry and defragging.
