Grabit Guide (Newsgroups)

Grabit Guide (Newsgroups)

Grabit
Version: 1.5.3 Beta
D/L Window: http://www.xtreme-source.com/downloa...do=file&id=158

The installation is a pretty standard process (D/L the exe file and run it). Once that is complete, you will need to setup Grabit!

First, you should see this pop-up window:

You will need to enter the News server that you will be using (i.e.-news.giganews.com). You will also need to tick the "News (NNTP) server requires a username and password." Once that is done, click Next.

Next, you will see this window:

This is where you will enter your Username and Password given to you by your News server provider. Once that is complete, click Next.

The next window:

You will want to leave the box ticked and click Finish.

Now, you are in Grabit. You should see the following screen:

Once that queue item is finished, you will be able to select the groups that you would like to subscribe to (i.e.-alt.binaries.dvd5)

Before you subscribe, you will want to setup Grabit to your preferences. For this, you will need to click on Edit, then Preferences. You should see the following:

You will want to click on the Folders tab to specify your D/L location:

Change it to whatever you deem necessary!!

Now, you are ready to add groups to your server. Click on the All Groups tab:

You should see a list, somewhat similar to this:

From there, you can refine your search to include certain words (i.e.-DVD) or by number of posts. Once you find one that you want to subscribe to, double-click it and the group will begin downloading in your Batch. If you click on the Batch tab (next to All Groups), you can see that it is downloading and should look similar to this:

If you do not see anything, please make sure that at least one of the boxes (next to the numbers) are ticked. Once it is done downloading, it is ready to be viewed. It should appear below your server, on the left-hand side of the screen. Click on the group name and it will list all of the posts in that group.

:coolp: YOU ARE NOW READY TO BEGIN DOWNLOADING!!! :coolp:

Thanks punqewe! I'm a proud (unofficial) spokesman for newsgroups, so I will hopefully have a couple more guides, pertaining to this topic, in the near future.

I'm still happy with BT, but I will check here before going into NG's. It's always good to have a detailed tutorial with pics. You can abuse your mod power and sticky your own guides lol.

It's more rewarding when someone else does it though.

grabit is what i use, seems to be the most simpliest client out there, and its free
i dont subscribe to any groups though,i import my NZB files,(like you do with torrents)

you must remember in grabit though to only connect to as many lines as your chosen server allows (see the tick boxes, they are 8 in this version of grabit)

btw, steer clear from the latest version of grabit which is 1.6.0 beta, its full of bugs!!
