Just to add in since the talk of "How to Save" is on...
Saving a project as a .gif will allow transparent backgrounds to be truly transparent when displayed say...in your signature here.

can you please tell me how I can "unlock" a backround of a pic to take out the color or other stuff in the backround? also, i'm using photoshop cs

I think you just need to rasterize the layer.

Right-click on it and select "Rasterize Layer". That should take away the lock and allow you to erase what you don't want.

Nice tut Jamaal but my rectangular marquee is just a rectangle and not a rounded rectangle like yours. Do you know what I am doing wrong

Sorry, I didn't have the default settings in PS when I did this tut...but I do now.

You can pretty much do the same thing with the Eliptical Marquee tool...if you want the rounded edges.
