How to Create User Bars (Part II)
Giving your User Bar life... In Part I, creating diagonal lines in your user bar was covered. In Part II, you will create the actual bar and basic design to it. You already have a bar ready to be edited if you've completed Part I, now we need to decide what the theme will be and find a logo to use. We are going to use the Firefox logo; Hopefully you're using Firefox right now...it changes the way you surf the net!! ![]() You can save this image to your computer or select your own. Step 1: Open both; the bar you created in Part I and the image(s) you've chosen for your user bar, in Photoshop. Note: For the purpose of this tutorial, using the image above requires less editing time for your logo. Selecting another may call for extracting the image from a background amongst other things. Step 2: Decide where to place your logo and resize it as necessary to give the effect that you want. - To move the logo around your User Bar, highlight the layer itself and select your move tool. ![]() Step 3: Give your User Bar color and character With this image I will add a gradient to the background incorporating both the dark and light blue of the Firefox logo. Here are some snapshots of what my settings and image look like so far. Gradient Settings: ![]() User Bar So Far... ![]() Step 4: Adding Text Select the Text icon within Photoshop, your preferred font and write in whatever location you want to of this User Bar. It's all about your creativity and preference. Any kind of text you want is fine. For the purpose of this guide and providing a basic finish. Below is a finished product. ![]() Note: The Font used was 04b_09. Also a stroke was added around the letters (black, 1 pixel) and a white outer glow was applied. You can apply those effects and more. Just right click on the layer you want to edit then select Blending Options. There are several effects available there. ![]() Step 5: Finished Product I changed the glow from white to orange and that's about it. Here is the final product. ![]() See Other Related Tutorials: How to Create User Bars (Part I) How to Create User Bars (Part III) |

@tECh, Nice little guide, your making a new tut to show how to make the reflection ??
I've used photoshop a while now, when i've been doing the reflextion on userbars i just make a white box with the pen tool accross the top, Ctrl + click the userbar layer, invert selecion and press delete, then lower the reflection layers opacity to about 20-25% that whats always been good for me :chef::chef: I think i might do some little photoshop tuts sometime.. |
