How to Create User Bars (Part III)
Reflections Picking up right where we left off, let's get the image we made in Part II of the tutorial and give it a little something more. I'm going ot use the image w/o the orange glow so here is what we have so far: ![]() This is pretty simple but for those of you that know what it's like working with gradients, I'm sure you know it takes some getting used to. Step 1: Open your user bar in Photoshop and select the 'Eliptical Marquee Tool' ![]() Step 2: Create a New Layer: Layer > New > Layer. The draw with the eliptical tool so that the bottom half of the dotted oval covers the area you want to have the reflection. ![]() Step 3: Select your gradient tool (circled below in red). In this example I will load the white and transparent gradient. ![]() Step 4: Once the gradient tool is selected, drag it from the top left of your user bar to the top right and let go. You should have something like tis below: ![]() NOTE: If the result of the fade is not exactly what you were looking for, reverse the action in Photoshop by selecting the step prior in the history window of Photoshop or simply select 'Edit > Undo' To clean up the gradient's edges, you can use a faded edge brush to manipulate it to your liking. See the image below. ![]() That's pretty much it. YES, YES & YES there are other ways. There is always another way but I thought this might be a good beginner level guide on reflections for the bars. I think that using a smaller brush than indicated above, and zooming in on the user bar (Ctrl and +)...the edges of the reflection could be blended nicely into the actual bar. But, it's all about what you want. See Other Related Tutorials: How to Create User Bars (Part I) How to Create User Bars (Part II) |
