Using HD Loader

HD Loader

Here are the things that you will need to be able to run HDloader:

you can get HDloader here www.consolesource.com/ecomm/customer/home.php

1. A PS2 network adapter
2. Either a Sony PS2 HDD (Hard disk) or standard IDE HDD, HD loader reccomend between 40GB and 120GB. The PS2's won't use over 130GB
3. A copy of HD loader

How to put games on your harddrive:

Put the disk in and hit Install in HDLoader's menu or install directly to the HD when you put it in your PC with apps such as HDL_Dump or WinHIIP which is HIGHLY recommended to save the wear-n-tear on your PS2 Laser.

Modes:

Mode 1 = slower hdd access
Mode 2 = enable dvd9 flattened to dvd5 support
Mode 3 = flush hdloader from ps2 memory upon loading game.

HDloader will not play DVD9 games. It will play most CD based games.

If your HDloader crashes at the splash screen it is usually due to a HDD that is not compatible with the network adapter or incorrect jumper settings on the HDD.

The HDloader will be compatible with all mod chips except those that power down after the boot sequence.

You will not be able to play PS1 games with HDloader.

You will also not be able to play online games with HDloader due to the fact that when used it will disable the network adapter.

You can not use HDloadfer with cheat discs such as the Gameshark or AR Max

How to install HD loader to my memory card (DMS3 Devmode 1)

With this you will be able to boot up the games without having to insert the HDloader disc each time.

Obtain HLOADER.ELF of size = around 640KB
Now create a CDR containing the following

HDLOADER.ELF
SYSTEM.CNF

Using notepad edit SYSTEM.CNF, and copy and paste the following in:

BOOT2 = cdrom0:\HDLOADER.ELF;1
VER = 1.0
VMODE = NTSC

INSTALL.CNF - Again edit this file with notepad and copy and paste the following in:

HDLoader 1.0
mc0:\BOOT\HDLOADER\HDLOADER.ELF
_MKDIR mc0:\BOOT\HDLOADER
_COPY cdrom0:\HDLOADER.ELF;1 mc0:\BOOT\HDLOADER\HDLOADER.ELF

Double check your CDR contains the following:

HDLOADER.ELF
SYSTEM.CNF
INSTALL.CNF

Then using your favourite burning software burn the disk in Mode2

Tip, if you'd like your PS2 to boot straight into HDloader rather than DMS's explorer, rename HDLOADER.ELF to BOOT.ELF along with all references to the file in SYSTEM.CNF and INSTALL.CNF

If you get a black screen after trying to boot up a game. highlight the game and press select on the controller. try each setting until the game loads. It will remember which setting you used the next time you boot that game so it should start right up.

Well you'd have to have a modchip with either a built in HD Loader app (a la DMS 4 Pro SE) or that allowed for booting of elfs off a memory card. You'd have to have some means of transferring the HD Loader elf to your Memory Card without a working laser, so FTP (like ExecFTP) or putting the memory card in a working modded PS2 and saving the HD Loader elf to disc through the modchips firmware menu and boot it in devolution mode with chips that allow it, like the Ghost 2, Crystal Chip 1.1/2.0, or Matrix Infinity. Then you'd have to rip the games with your DVD burner/DVD-ROM drive in your PC, and transfer isos via Winhiip. Any kind of exploit requires a means of booting burned CD-R's, so you're outta luck there.

That's more a what if scenario for people that wanted to know, it's a total waste of time, pickup a second hand PS2/new laser and get it modchipped or buy Swap Magic+a case mod to play backups, much more practical solution.
