All guides/instructions on computer settings are for a computer running windowsXP only…. You may have to adjust, find another way with a different operating system
Checklist 1.Do you have the right equipment for playing/burning back-up games? 2.Are the discs you are using good quality? 3.Are you using the recording program correctly? 4.Have you got the settings correct on your computer and programs? Answers 1. I recommend that you have AT MINIMUM a computer with a 1Ghz processor, 512MB Ram and a 4x dvd writer for making your game backups. In order to play the backups you will need to have either: a) A modchip (modchip definition) - available from our sister site Team modders for USA. -available from ghost2fitter for UK. b) Swap magic boot discs, and a case mod(non-standard flip-top, slide-card, magic keys etc)… but I definitely endorse having the flip-top(not the one that comes with the PS2 slimline, but an aftermarket non-standard one) - read more about it Here - available from Here or Here for the UK. Or use google and search for "swap magic 3.6" but without the quotes " You cannot use a copied boot disc, it won't work unless you have some other way of booting that disc(which makes it redundant to have really!!) 2. I recommend that you use Taiyo yuden, verbatim or maxell(made in Japan) as most people have success with those discs. You could also use Ritek G04 or G05 dye discs, some people (me included) have great success with these, but until you know whether your dvd writer and PS2 like those type I suggest only buying a small(sample) pack to try them. Also most people have more compatability using the DVD-R format rather than the DVD+R format for PS2 backups, but again - try a small or sample pack to see what works best for you. DO NOT USE INFERIOR DISCS FROM MANUFACTURERS SUCH AS MEMOREX, PRINCO, IMATION OR ANY DISCS WITH A CMC MAG MEDIA CODE…. THEY WILL SOMETIMES WORK, BUT CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS LATER To check what media you have, you can use this program here, called DVD identifier (also included in this download is a memory card format utility:- http://rapidshare.de/files/25442303/several5.rar.html And check it on this website to see the verdict of that media from reviews:- http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php? 3. There are already guides on how to use dvd decrypter, nero and a few other burning programs correctly to back up a game, so I won't re-iterate ... You can get dvd decrypter from (also has imgburn bundled in this RAR file):- http://rapidshare.de/files/22775633/...gburn.rar.html Or you can google for it.. the choice is yours. 4. This section covers some things you MAY require to increase ripping/burning performance. a) Make sure you have DMA enabled on your IDE devices... to do this open up the CONTROL PANEL. ![]() Then select and open the SYSTEM FOLDER. ![]() Then select the HARDWARE TAB. ![]() Then select the DEVICE MANAGER BUTTON. ![]() Then expand the tree + for the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. ![]() Right mouse click the PRIMARY IDE CHANNEL, a mouse menu will come up, select PROPERTIES. ![]() This will pop-up. ![]() Then select the ADVANCED TAB. ![]() You can now see if DMA is enabled on that IDE channel, if it is in PIO mode, change it using the drop down menu.. then hit OK. Do the same with the SECONDARY IDE CHANNEL and then you should be set to go. b) Installing WNASPI32.DLL. Get it from here http://www.nero.com/en/WNASPI32.DLL.html Go to the folder where you downloaded the file WNASPI32.DLL to. ![]() Go to EDIT and COPY TO FOLDER. ![]() Expand C:\. ![]() Expand WINDOWS. ![]() Select SYSTEM32 folder, and then press the COPY BUTTON. ![]() If you go into your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folder, you should now be able to see this. ![]() Now to enable WNASPI32.DLL to be used with dvd decrypter. Open up dvd decrypter and go to TOOLS menu and select SETTINGS. ![]() Select the I/O TAB. ![]() Select the radio button for ASPI – WNASPI32.DLL and then press OK. ![]() Now it should all be done. c) Updating firmware. This is relatively easy in most cases, if you don’t know the make, model and firmware of your CD/DVD - ROM/WRITER then you can use CD/DVD firmware checking program. This is available from the below link (Bundled in the RAR is:- Disc ID util/DVD scanlite/ID patcher/Toxic dual layer patcher and CD/DVD firmware detection tool) http://rapidshare.de/files/25442335/several3.rar.html Start the program and you should see something like this. ![]() Then go to here:- http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php And use the search downloads function to find the firmware for your drive. ![]() For example. I use my own drive NEC ND3520 and enter it into the search bar. ![]() The results for your drive come up like this:- ![]() And you select the latest firmware for your drive.. in my case it’s 3.06. Click on the latest firmware for your drive and it’ll start a download dialogue box like this:- ![]() Select save and tell it where you want to save it in Internet Explorer, or with Firefox it’ll save it to your default download location. On completion of download.. navigate to your download folder. ![]() Most of the time it will have downloaded a RAR file, so now you need to extract the files from this RAR file. OPEN/RUN the rar file.. it will open a window like this. ![]() Hit the EXTRACT BUTTON. And choose a location to extract the files to like this. ![]() Then navigate to the folder that you just extracted the files to. ![]() Locate the README.TXT file… IMPORTANT!!! READ THE DIRECTIONS IN THAT FILE CAREFULLY AND IN FULL!!! ![]() When you’ve read the file and followed the directions for flashing your firmware, you’re ready to begin. Open/run the flash utility. If you happened to download something other than a flash utility, I’m sorry but I don’t know how to update firmware that way. Either discontinue using the guide or follow the instructions in the README file. ![]() It should look something like this. ![]() As you can see from the picture, my drive does not need flashing as it is already that version. But you should press the FLASH BUTTON, and follow any instruction given to you on screen… when it’s finished flashing the drive it should prompt you to restart the computer to complete the flash… when it restarts it will detect it as a new drive, wait for it to finish installing the new drive and then you’ll probably be prompted to restart the computer again to complete the install… do that and then you’re finished. I hope this guide was some help to you ![]() |
