Hi, excellent guide! What happens if you dont booktype DVD+R as DVD-ROM? Will the games not play in the PS2? Thanks.

Booktyping isnt mandatory. A pressed game you get at BEST BUY is a DVD-ROM, so its best to use the same as if the game from the manufacturer. A lot of burners dont support booktyping, but if yours does, might as well take advantage of it.

Do you have some type of mod? If yes, then what's the Media ID of the discs you're using.
91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it? A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: DVD Identifier - Your DVD, HD DVD & Blu-ray Companion Compare the Media ID to this link: digitalFAQ.com | Blank DVD Media Quality Guide Huge List of Media ID's (Thanks to DogBomb): Nice List of DVD Media and Codes

Please tell me what i´m doing wrong. I have several games that I want to backup, and i am trying to do so using dvd decrypter.
This is what happens. I am using two types of media: Tayo Yuden´s TYG02 DVD-R and Verbatim´s MCC004 DVD+R. When I burn with Verbatin´s +R it works perfectly, but with TY´s -R i get that screen with the golden disc and it doesn´t load...This happens doing the exact same steps as described in this here thread. My PS2 has a modchip, tough i haven´t got a clue what kind of chip it is. Could it be the chip or am I messing up? BTW, congrats on the info. I´m a real first-timer but will sure be coming back for more. |

It could just be your PS2 doesn't take to DVD-R's as well. If the 16x Verb +R's are working well, just use them. Newer PS2's should work fine with either + or -R's, but they can be quirky, some work great with 16x media, others not at all. Some work great with + or -R's, others not at all. I've never been able to discern any patterns with the newer ones, my personal feeling it's just that the parts have gotten so cheap, there's no telling what will/won't work with v12 PS2's and later, it's just a process of trial and error. So you answered your own question, stick with the Verb's that work, and you can get 100 spindles of them cheap at places like Sam's Club. Welcome to XS!

Hi Everyone. I'm new to this PS2 Back Up thing and I'm having a little difficulty. I have the PS2 slim. I recently recieved the Swap Magic 3 disc. I tried to make back ups of my games (I tried Bully and Tiger Woods 2003) using both Nero and Alcohol 120...I got the same result with both. I burned the copies, put the Swap disc in the PS2. When the Swap screen came up, I opened the PS2 to take out the Swap disc, and got the message "Insert Bigger TOC Disc." I replaced the Swap disc with the burned copy. On the load screen for the Swap disc, I get the message "Not a valid PS2 disc". When I click to load the disc it pauses for a second, then just stays on the load screen and never reads the game. By the way, I'm using Maxwell DVD+R HighGrade disc. Any suggestions?
