What firmware are you using? You are doing everything right, just seems to be a setting wrong or the app is not encoding the movies properly. Let me know and then ill play around with it.

You can use quicktime to make the MP4 files, just gotta select the other MP4 file format. It uses a different encoding. H.264 if I remember correctly. Other than that, if you used Xilisoft Video converter, it should of worked...

Remember, things do work, but i have to put them in the "VIDEO" folder - they play fine and have jpgs displayed and pause at the end of playing (need to push circle to return to menu,) but the tutorial says use the "MP_ROOT -> 100MNV01" Just wanted to know if anyone else experienced this or if the tut needs updating.

Used psp video 9 to convert. Using these settings:
Guide to Convert Video for the PSP « Digital Life

I have firmware 3.50. Just got a psp and haven't done the dirty just yet! but, yes.... i will soon...

BTW, The videos come out looking nice.

After some online searching:

For PSP with firmware later than 3.30
Firmware after 3.30 goes into the X:\VIDEO where X is the drive letter of your storage media. This is a lot easier to deal with and does NOT have to be anything special when it comes to file names. Just name your MP4 whatever you want and as long as it is in the VIDEO folder and is a supported format, you should be able to at least know that something is in that folder when you view it on your PSP. Thumbnails have to be the same file name as the video itself but with a JPG as an extension.

The PSP also supports the previous directory structure X:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01. If for some reason you still want to use this directory.

that answers the question. by the way, i am testing out the different encoders for the psp and will let yall know the best one!

ok that is a little weird LOL! It says it supports the old way of doing things as well....obviously not to well. As long as it works by using the VIDEO folder then all is good! Thanks for the update spiffy
