Making your page file bigger (virtual memory)

This is a very short tutorial for how to make your virtual memory bigger.

1. Go into the control panel and open up the system settings.

2. Click on the advanced tab.

3. Go into the performance settings.

4. Click the advanced tab... and then the change button as below.

5. Select a hard drive that you want the system to use some space from... you can see below that I use my windows hard drive.

Select custom and enter a number, i'd suggest using at least 1000MB and a maximum(if your hard drive can allow it) of 4000MB. When that's done, click set and then OK

You may be prompted at some point to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.. do that and then all should be ok.. hope that helps out

No worries.. I never would have thought to do this tutorial if bobert hadn't needed it.. it's one of those things that you think everyone already knows.
I'll have to come up with a few more "must do" things

How do you set it to more than 4096MB? mine always comes up and says to set it to equal or lower than 4096MB if I try to set it higher?
Not that I want mine higher.. just wondering how you do it?

It shouldn't do.. even on a very old computer you could set it to 4000MB min if you want.. as for the maximum.. I've never known it to go higher than 4096MB myself. All values though are dependant on how big your hard disk is etc...

You must remember though that the pagefile is no comparison to having as much RAM as you need to operate your system.
